Position Summary
JRP is seeking a Field Safety Specialist to support the company’s safety compliance, risk management, and field safety initiatives across all operational markets. This role is primarily responsible for ensuring a safe work environment, maintaining regulatory compliance, and supporting continuous improvement in safety practices throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field safety audits, terminal inspections, and operational safety observations to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with DOT compliance activities, including driver qualification files, Hours of Service, electronic logging devices (ELDs), and safety documentation.
- Provide hands-on support to drivers by assisting with Samsara training, ELD troubleshooting, and reinforcing safe operating practices.
- Investigate accidents, spills, near misses, and other safety incidents; prepare reports and assist with corrective action planning.
- Respond to safety incidents and spills as needed, including after-hours or on-call support when immediate response is required.
- Affiliate with new hire orientation by delivering safety-related onboarding and coordinating with the Fleet Trainer on driver development.
- Affiliate with OSHA compliance initiatives, safety inspections, and workplace hazard assessments across company locations.
- Affiliate in developing and delivering safety communications, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety awareness initiatives.
- Travel to terminals and operating locations to reinforce safety expectations, observe field operations, and support compliance efforts.
- Promote a proactive safety culture by partnering with operations, drivers, and leadership to reduce risk and improve workplace safety.
- Perform all duties in accordance with company policies, DOT regulations, OSHA standards, and environmental requirements.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2–5 years of experience supporting workplace safety, transportation safety, regulatory compliance, or a related field preferred.
- OSHA 10-Hour certification required; OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification preferred (or ability to obtain).
- Working knowledge of DOT regulations, FMCSA compliance, Hours of Service, and electronic logging devices (ELDs) preferred.
- Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, incident investigations, or corrective action planning preferred.
- Experience training or coaching employees on safety procedures and compliance is a plus.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Able to travel frequently (up to 75%), including occasional overnight travel, and participate in an on-call rotation to respond to safety incidents when necessary.
- Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Must successfully pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screenings and participate in random testing as required.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in both office and field environments, including terminals and customer sites.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and conduct inspections in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to enter and exit commercial vehicles and navigate industrial work environments safely.
- Ability to travel frequently and occasionally overnight to support field operations.
