About the role

Jupiter Medical Center is seeking a skilled Medical Dosimetrist to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree from an approved school of radiation therapy and/or medical dosimetry, along with MDCB certification or eligibility.

Responsibilities

  • Design treatment plans using computer and manual computation with optimal beam geometry.
  • Identify and contour normal and dose-limiting structures using images from various data sets.
  • Create and transfer reference images and localization markers for portal verification and treatment delivery.
  • Supervise, perform, or assist in simulations and tumor localization using CT, MRI, and PET imaging devices.
  • Plan and implement the fabrication of compensation filters, custom shields, wedges, and other beam modifying devices.
  • Plan and implement the production of molds, casts, and other immobilization devices.
  • Communicate with radiation therapists to ensure the correct use of immobilization devices, compensators, wedges, and treatment parameters.
  • Perform calculations for the accurate delivery of prescribed doses and document all pertinent information in the patient record.
  • Operate and perform quality assurance on treatment planning computers under the direction of the Medical Physicist.
  • Assist in brachytherapy procedures by performing treatment planning and dose calculations.
  • May perform or assist in the receiving, loading, and shipping of radioactive materials.
  • Utilize radiation monitoring devices to measure radioactivity and perform assays.
  • Teach applied aspects of medical dosimetry to students, radiation therapists, and residents.
  • Participate in clinical research and quality improvement processes.

Qualifications

  • MDCB Certification preferred.
  • MDCB Eligible required.
  • Computer skills, strong physics and/or electronics background.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and make good sound decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing.

Skills

  • Knowledgeable in anatomy, physiology, clinical oncology, radiobiology, radiation physics, and radiation safety.
  • Expertise in technical aspects of radiation oncology and medical physics to develop optimal treatment plans.
  • Knowledgeable in health care informatics and current medical terminology.
  • Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Has high-level critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Works independently but collaborates with the Radiation Oncologist and Medical Physicist.
  • Has working knowledge of radiation safety principles and practices.
  • Has the ability to interpret criteria and develop treatment plans as defined by relevant protocols.
  • Has mathematical skills including algebra, trigonometry, and introductory calculus.
  • Knowledgeable in conducting clinical research and writing papers for publication.
  • General understanding of scripting across various programming languages.
