About the role
The Medical Dosimetrist coordinates physician’s intended treatment prescription by performing computerized treatment planning for patients under external beam treatments, while using proper oral and written communication for implementation of the treatment plan to ensure high levels of safety and patient satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Available to simulation staff and physician for consultation on patient setup and troubleshooting setup difficulties.
- Affirms that data acquisition and immobilization methods are adequate for correct treatment planning to ensure minimal patient re-scans.
- Provides valuable information to the physician regarding treatment parameter options and limitations of the treatment machine and treatment planning system.
- Develops optimal treatment plan in a timely manner, possibly requiring multiple plan options and trials for physician analysis.
- Provides additional dose calculations or assessment of prior treatment fields when instructed by the physician.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific technical field (ie Radiation Therapy technology, physics, math) or graduation from a school of Medical Dosimetry or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- If graduation from Medical Dosimetry school: No prior experience required.
- If a Bachelor's degree: One (1) year of health care experience.
- If Associate's degree, must be a registered radiation therapist and four (4) years of experience in medical dosimetry working under the supervision of a Certified medical dosimetrist or medical physicist.
Qualifications
- Requires certification by the Board of Medical Dosimetry (CMD).
- Board eligible by MDCB (certification must be completed within one year of eligibility).
Pay
$49.12 per hour
