About the Role

The Dosimetrist is knowledgeable about the characteristics and clinical relevance of Radiation Oncology with expertise in treatment planning. Transfers data from the treatment planning system into Record and Verify Software and develops a treatment plan as directed by the Lead Dosimetrist, Chief Medical Physicist, and Physician. Processes patient data acquisition, treatment evaluation, and quality management. Functions as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure continuity of care and services as a treatment planning advisor.

Responsibilities

  • Executes accurate calculations in treatment planning for the administration of ionized radiation.
  • Applies knowledge of physics and human anatomy in treatment planning.
  • Demonstrates strong knowledge of planning and delivery of external beam, IMRT, SBRT, Rapid ARC, and LDR plans.
  • Ensures all treatment plans are verified by the Chief Medical Physicist, Physician, and another Dosimetrist prior to treatment.
  • Assists with the determination of radiation dose distributions in patients undergoing treatment.
  • Performs patient simulation using 3-D technology and treatment device construction.
  • Assists with surgical procedures for Brachytherapy.
  • Documents infractions and communicates concerns to management.
  • Executes accurate calculations in treatment planning for the administration of ionized radiation utilizing Varian Eclipse software.
  • Participates in Cancer Center sponsored community health screenings and events.
  • Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs.
  • Performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work safely.
  • Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.
  • Ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.
  • Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree (Required).
  • Medical Dosimetry Certification: New Grads required within 12 months of hire; all others required at hire.
  • Medical Radiologic Technologists Board of Examiners (MRTBE-AZ State Licensure) (Preferred).
  • 5 years of experience as a Dosimetrist (Preferred).
  • Employee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their departmental leader.
  • Understanding of computers and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
