Dosimetrist
Position Summary
The Dosimetrist uses critical thinking skills and clinical knowledge in collaboration with the treatment team during the treatment planning process to ensure prescribed planning directives are achieved effectively and participates in communicating the plan to the physicist and radiation therapists for quality assurance and implementation. The dosimetrist uses evidence-based practice standards to maximize efficacy while maintaining a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail, safety, and ethics.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
- Calculates prescribed radiation doses and develops field placement techniques in accordance with the radiation oncologist’s prescription. Prepares organ and tissue contours for patient treatment planning.
- Develops new techniques to optimize treatment simulation, planning, evaluation, and delivery, following and training others in all departmental billing and compliance procedures. Interacts with vendors, ensuring smooth implementation of all technology.
- Participates in clinical research, collecting and submitting data.
- Performs basic physical and technical support for equipment and software, and stays current with existing and emerging techniques, devices, and methods.
- Affords assistance in coordinating treatment simulations and tumor localizations on dedicated devices (e.g., CT, MRI, X-Ray, and PET, etc.) when indicated, for radiation treatment planning.
- Trains other dosimetrists in relevant software and treatment planning techniques.
- Performs and documents the treatment planning required for the preparation of the delivery of radiation therapy treatments.
- Performs required documentation to comply with regulatory requirements.
- Effectively communicates with other health team members and areas of care with regard to the patient’s plan of care for treatment, measured outcomes, and makes recommendations for alternative care options.
- Participates in efforts to improve the performance of the radiation oncology service and organization.
- Serves as a preceptor and role model for new personnel and students in training.

Minimum Requirements
- Extensive experience with Varian hardware and software (Eclipse & Aria)
- Fluent in all treatment planning techniques
- Minimum one-year acute care experience or equivalent preferred.
- Current ARRT license, Radiation Therapy preferred
- Current fluoroscopy license in California preferred
- Current certificate from Medical Dosimetry Certification Board required
Pay
*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities.
