Dormitory Counselor (Multiple Positions!)

About This Role

Our Residential Program is responsible for maintaining the educational mission of Oregon School for the Deaf and is designed to provide a variety of learning opportunities that promote students' academic endeavors and encourage their growth and development. We recognize that learning is not solely academic in nature. A large part of learning inevitably takes place outside the classroom. We are committed to supporting that learning through the residential experiences we provide. Our dorm counselors are committed to providing students with a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained living space in an academically enriching environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide overnight residential supervision from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM, including in-sight supervision, living skills instruction, PBIS instruction, recreational and leisure time activities.
• Plan and supervise large and small groups of students for activities such as instructional play, homework, or other educational activities, organized leisure time, and after-school recreation.
• Maintain attendance records and continuously monitor the location, safety, and wellbeing of each student under your care.
• Supervise and/or participate in assisting with sports activities and other extracurricular activities.
• Ensure a safe, clean, and visually attractive living environment for students.

Requirements

Dormitory Counselor

• High School diploma or GED.
• Six months of experience working with children or adults in a group home, foster care setting, or skilled care center.
• American Sign Language at the PI level 3 or better (Gallaudet) or Intermediate or better (WOU) within 6 months of hire.

Dormitory Counselor SUB

• An Associates degree in a behavioral or social science field; OR eighteen months of experience in the skills listed below.
• American Sign Language at the PI level 3 (Gallaudet).

Training

• First Aid/CPR Training provided annually prior to the start of the school year (if unable to attend, certification is the employee’s responsibility).
• MANDT Training required.

Preferred Skills & Knowledge

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Google Suite, and practical computer skills.
• Housekeeping or custodial experience.
• Experience with basic behavior intervention strategies.
• Experience in childcare within K-12 educational settings.
• Knowledge or experience in child care development.

Pay

Monthly salary range: $3,642.00–$4,954.00 ($3,880.00–$5,298.00 for PERS-qualifying candidates).

Schedule

Overnight shift: 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM. One position is full-time academic year; remaining positions are on-call (substitute) academic year.
