About the Role

The Donor Communications Specialist will craft clear, thoughtful, donor-centered storytelling that strengthens relationships with members, donors, and community supporters. This role involves turning ideas, information, and institutional priorities into meaningful communications while managing multiple projects across newsletters, appeals, invitations, presentations, web content, and other donor-facing materials. The Specialist will help manage the shared communications calendar, coordinate timelines and approvals, gather input from colleagues, and ensure smooth project delivery from concept to completion.

This is an opportunity for a developing communications professional to grow in nonprofit and philanthropic storytelling while contributing to a cultural institution serving Central Massachusetts and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and revise a range of donor and member communications, from brief updates to in-depth stories and presentations.
  • Adapt tone and style for diverse audiences, including members, donors, and community supporters.
  • Manage shared communications calendars, track deadlines, and coordinate review and approval workflows.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Communications, and Development teams to gather input, incorporate feedback, and ensure timely delivery.
  • Follow up on details, seek clarity when needed, and maintain organization across multiple moving projects.
  • Help ensure each communication aligns with the Museum’s voice and mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, nonprofit management, or a related field.
  • Approximately 3–5 years of relevant communications experience in a nonprofit, cultural, educational, philanthropic, or mission-driven setting.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to tailor content for different audiences.
  • Experience drafting email newsletters, invitations, appeals, web stories, presentations, or similar materials.
  • Experience managing shared calendars, tracking deadlines, and coordinating review processes.
  • Interest in philanthropy, donor stewardship, membership engagement, museums, culture, or community-centered nonprofit work.
