About the Role

A school nurse's primary goal is to promote student health and ensure well-being by focusing on health promotion, disease prevention, management of chronic conditions, and providing daily care for acute conditions. School Nurses bridge health and education through disease prevention and management, health screenings, and direct student care. The school nurse connects families to resources, develops health plans, and ensures policy compliance, promoting a safe and healthy learning environment for all students.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited-licensed nurse program
  • Valid nursing license in the State of Missouri
  • Maintain record of annual continuing education
  • Current CPR Certification

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and indirect care to students in compliance with school district policies, professional standards of practice, physician's orders, and Individual Health Care Plans.
  • Assist students with medications and maintain accurate medication records.
  • Act as a liaison between physicians, schools, communities, and families to improve the holistic health needs of school children.
  • Coordinate health screenings, examinations, and immunization programs.
  • Participate in the development of Individual Education Plans when appropriate.
  • Interpret health screening results to parents and teachers and assist in referral and follow-up.
  • Uphold confidentiality, dignity, and rights of all students and staff, complying with regulations and laws related to health and safety.
  • Ensure maintenance of accurate health records and submission of reports to appropriate agencies.
  • Formulate, revise, and implement Individualized Health Care Plans.
  • Assist in developing student safety and child protection programs.
  • Plan proper emergency care and first aid for illnesses and accidents during school activities.
  • Serve as a health consultant and resource for classroom health education.
  • Coordinate the Health curriculum and provide training in specialized health care procedures to staff.
  • Monitor, report, and recommend changes for safety hazards and sanitary conditions.
  • Assist in forming health policies, goals, and objectives.
  • Supervise Health Aide as needed.
  • Order supplies and assist in managing the school's health services budget.
  • Maintain professional competencies through in-service educational activities and self-selected professional growth programs.
  • Aid in the recruitment and orientation of new personnel.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by administrators.

Pay

RN: Begins at $28.11 per hour. Upon verification of relevant work experience, employees may be granted up to Step 7 credit.

LPN: Begins at $19.16 per hour. Upon verification of relevant work experience, employees may be granted up to Step 7 credit.

Schedule

186.5 days per year; 8.0 hours per day (does not include a 30-minute lunch).
