About the organization

A Home of Their Own (AHOTO) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue based in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area. Founded in 2024 by a group of longtime animal rescue professionals, AHOTO aims to make the adoption process transparent, supportive, and positive for everyone involved. The organization is committed to saving as many dogs and cats as possible while ensuring each animal finds the best possible forever home. AHOTO provides ongoing education, training, outreach, and support to adopters to build a community of happy pets and their families.

About the role

AHOTO is seeking foster homes for dogs in need. Fostering saves lives and helps these animals transition into loving forever homes. Even if you cannot foster, you can help by sharing this opportunity with others.

Animals needing foster homes

• Archie – Male, Shepherd/Australian/Coonhound/Redbone mix, 1 year & 6 months old. Good with people and dogs, a little shy, treat-driven, not good with chickens, housetrained.
• Rancher – Male, Great Pyrenees, 1 year & 7 months old, 62 lbs. Previously returned due to a fight with another male dog (food-related, with the other dog being the aggressor). Has since done well with multiple dogs, both male and female.
• Suki – Female, Hound mix, 10 months old, 21 lbs. Friendly with people and dogs, initially shy but becomes a lap dog, treat-driven.
• Rip – Male, Feist mix, 3 years & 5 months old, 44.8 lbs. Friendly with people and dogs, not good with cats or chickens/farm animals, housetrained, good in vehicles.
• James – Male, Terrier, 1 year old, 48 lbs. Friendly with people and dogs, treat-driven, good in vehicles, housetrained. Came in with June (who is similar but not good with small children).
• River – Male, Coonhound/Redbone, 2 years old, 44 lbs. Friendly with people and dogs, housetrained. Recovered from corrective surgery for entropion and has blossomed since joining AHOTO.
• Letty – Female, Newfoundland, approximately 3 years old. Found as a stray after her owner went to jail. Sweet, loves people, lap-loving, dog-friendly (to be confirmed), likely housetrained.
• No Name – Great Pyrenees/Lab mix, all white, around 100 lbs. Excellent temperament.
