Skill Bridge Program Overview

DOD SkillBridge Internships offer transitioning service members valuable civilian work experience through internships lasting up to 180 days. Open to all ranks and experience levels, participants continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members in a permissive TDY status.

Position Summary

A Field Engineer I, II, or III will inspect and monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with plans and specifications, and document satisfactory completion of inspection or test activities. They will also develop an understanding of the project scope and schedule.

Location & Travel Details

The DOD SkillBridge Internship is located in Texas and Ohio. This is an onsite program.

Responsibilities

  • Safety: Promote and comply with safety policies, perform surveys and measurements, detect and address deficiencies, and maintain quality control documentation.
  • Compliance: Inspect and ensure work quality, review tests and inspection reports, and manage punch lists for work completed.
  • Planning: Plan and conduct daily activities, interface with construction managers, compile information, and assist in preparing daily project updates.
  • Training: Coordinate and assist in safety and policies training, and prepare reports and documentation.

Qualifications

  • DoD Skillbridge eligibility criteria met.
  • Prior experience or education in construction, power delivery, or heavy civil.
  • Ability to complete and pass local or state certified SWPPP inspector program.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Advanced oral, written, and communication skills.

Work Experience and Education

Prior experience related to the position, associates or bachelor's degree in construction management, civil, mechanical engineering, or related field, or relevant construction experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Understanding of construction safety protocols and compliance.
  • Advanced oral, written, and communication skills.

Physical Requirements

Jobsites involve exposure to hazards and physical risks requiring basic safety precautions. Moderate exposure to unusual elements like extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noises is expected. Physical work includes frequent climbing of stairs and ladders.
