Clarkson Eyecare is seeking an Optometric Technician to support our team in O'Fallon, MO. This role is vital in delivering a world-class Total Patient Experience by assisting the optometrist with preliminary testing and patient flow.
About the Role
As an Optometric Technician, you will perform initial testing using optical equipment, facilitate patient flow, and ensure efficient communication between patients, doctors, and managers. This is a full-time position with a schedule that supports our office hours.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate patient flow and assist the doctor in preliminary testing
- Verify medical and vision insurance information
- Operate and clean optical equipment, including manual lensometer, auto-lensometer, autorefractor/keratometer, retinal camera, visual field, GDX, or OCT
- Follow scripting for testing procedures (e.g., photos, visual fields, visual acuity)
- Communicate effectively with patients, doctors, and managers via phone, email, and in-person
- Comply with all company policies and procedures, including HIPAA
- Practice urgency to respect patients' and doctors' time
- Perform general office duties and cleaning as assigned by the manager
- Maintain a positive, team-oriented, and patient-focused work environment
- Commit to flexible work hours, including potential weekends or schedule changes, to meet business needs
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Basic computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Strong customer service skills and excitement to learn and grow
- Minimum of 1 year in a customer/patient-facing role or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Previous medical or ophthalmic office experience preferred
- Favorable result on background check (required by state)
- Proof of identity and right to work in the United States
Physical Requirements
- Frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), and standing (50%)
- Regular bending, stooping, and reaching (25–50%)
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull items up to 25 lbs
- Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands for grasping, writing, and typing
- Visual and auditory acuity, including color, depth, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus (required 100% of the time)
- Occasional driving or climbing may be necessary

Schedule
- Full-time position
- Office hours: Monday–Friday 8am–7pm, Saturday 8am–1pm
- Must have open availability to work any shift within these hours, including potential early or late adjustments as needed
