Doctor's Assistant - Training Provided!

Clarkson Eyecare is seeking an Optometric Technician to join our team in Lake Saint Louis, MO. This role supports optometrists by performing preliminary testing and facilitating a seamless patient experience.

About the Role

An Optometric Technician is a valuable asset to an optometrist, assisting in providing a world-class Total Patient Experience. This team member handles a wide range of duties, including operating optical equipment to prepare patients for exams.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate patient flow and assist the doctor in preliminary testing
• Verify medical and vision insurance information
• Effectively communicate with patients, doctors, and managers via phone, email, and in-person
• Embrace and execute our Total Patient Experience to build relationships with patients while delivering great medical support
• Comply with all company policies and procedures, including HIPAA
• Operate and maintain equipment such as manual lensometer, auto-lensometer, autorefractor/keratometer, retinal camera, visual field, GDX, or OCT
• Follow scripting for testing procedures (photos, visual fields, visual acuity, etc.)
• Clean all examination equipment, including tonometer tips
• Perform general office duties and cleaning as assigned by the manager
• Create a positive work environment by being team-oriented and patient-focused
• Commit to work hours that meet business needs, which may include weekends, schedule changes, or extended hours

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Basic computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Strong customer service skills and excitement to learn and grow
• Minimum of 1 year in a customer/patient-facing role or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Favorable result on background check as required by state
• Must be able to provide proof of identity and right to work in the United States
• Previous medical office experience preferred; previous ophthalmic experience strongly preferred

Physical Requirements

• Frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), and standing (50%)
• Regular bending, stooping, and reaching (25–50%)
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lbs
• Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands for constant grasping, writing/typing, and technology use
• Visual and auditory acuity, including color, depth, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus (required 100% of the time)
• Occasional driving or climbing may be necessary

Schedule

• Full-time position
• Offices are open Monday–Friday 8am–7pm, Saturday 8am–1pm
• Must have open availability to work any shift within these hours, including potential early or late adjustments as needed
