About the Role

An Optometric Technician is a valuable asset to an optometrist, assisting in providing a world-class Total Patient Experience. This team member handles a wide range of duties while using optical equipment to perform the initial testing needed to prepare a patient for an exam with an Optometrist.

Responsibilities

  • Embrace and execute our Total Patient Experience to build relationships with all patients while delivering great medical support.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures, including HIPAA.
  • Practice urgency at all times, valuing a patient's time as well as the doctor's time and schedule.
  • Operate manual lensometer, auto-lensometer, autorefractor/keratometer, retinal camera, visual field, GDX, or OCT.
  • Follow scripting for testing equipment (photos, visual fields, visual activity, etc.).
  • Clean all examination equipment, including the tonometer tip.
  • Interact with all levels of employees in a courteous, professional manner at all times.
  • Perform general office duties and cleaning as assigned by the manager.
  • Consistently create a positive work environment by being team-oriented and patient-focused.
  • Commit to work hours that meet the needs of the business, which may include weekends, schedule changes, or an extended schedule.

Requirements

  • Previous medical office experience preferred; previous ophthalmic experience strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year in a position interacting with customers/patients or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Favorable result on background check as required by state.
  • Must be able to provide proof of identity and right to work in the United States.
  • High school diploma or GED required.

Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Location

Work is primarily performed in a standard office or clinical setting. However, travel to other locations may be required to carry out essential job duties and responsibilities.

Physical Requirements

This role requires a variety of physical activities to effectively perform essential job functions:

  • Frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), and standing (50%).
  • Regular bending, stooping, and reaching (25–50%).
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lbs.
  • Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands for constant grasping, writing/typing, and use of technology.
  • Visual and auditory acuity—including color, depth, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus—required 100% of the time.
  • Occasional driving or climbing may also be necessary.
