About the role
This position is responsible for coordinating the proper receiving, storing, and shipping of all incoming freight and data entry floor transactions.
Responsibilities
- Follows and ensures compliance with operational procedures for verifying incoming and outgoing shipments, handling and disposition of materials, and maintaining accurate warehouse inventory.
- Coordinates the receipt and processing of all incoming freight, examines freight for damage, maintains inventory management, cycle counts, inventory accuracy, and places freight in proper location.
- Coordinates the movement of trailers within the facility grounds.
- Coordinates yard and dock checks.
- Coordinates the preparation of materials for shipment: to include verification of part numbers, count boxes, and skids as necessary, verify correct paperwork and bar coding, matches trailer number with load.
- Inspects and reports physical condition of warehouse and equipment.
- Escalate the need for repairs and requisitions for replacement of equipment.
- Confers with the supervisor/manager to ensure coordination of warehouse activities.
- Supports and complies with all company policies and procedures to ensure a safe and healthy workplace.
- Participates in planning personnel safety and plant protection activities.
- Makes sure that the OS&D quarantine area is organized and procedures followed.
- Ensures that all material handlers have assignments and the appropriate tools to do their job.
- Identifies and implements continual improvement initiatives to enhance the performance of the position, team, and company.
- Handles multiple responsibilities simultaneously or switches rapidly between tasks while maintaining high productivity and accuracy.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Participates in interviews with supervisor/manager present, and training employees.
- Planning, assigning, and directing work.
- Provides feedback to supervisor/manager on performance of employees.
- Assists the Manager in addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
- Ability to read and write in English is required.
- Ability to speak Spanish and English may be required in some centers.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Knowledge of TMS software.
- Pass Protrans Forklift Performance Tests.
- Thorough knowledge of loading and unloading trailers including the use of logistics bars.
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk.
- Occasionally required to sit and climb or balance.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to hear in order to perform essential job functions, including hearing forklifts, nearby individuals, and common environmental noises at all times.
Work Environment
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, forklifts, and trucks.
- Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions.
- Occasionally exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
