Division Manager - Civil Engineering, Philadelphia
About the role
David Mason + Associates has provided high quality Civil Engineering services since 1989. Our team of professionals prepare design plans for new construction and renovation projects in various markets including, but not limited to education, healthcare, and utility infrastructure. Starting our east coast presence out of Philadelphia in 2014, we quickly established strong relationships with the top clients and businesses within the Philadelphia/tri-state region, which led to projects with many of the higher education institutes, developers and local community organizations in the area. Including projects such as the new Veterinarian School at Rowan University, projects at the Navy Yard, Drexel University, and Life Sciences buildings for new local developments.
Responsibilities
- Provide senior level technical guidance across multiple market sectors.
- Oversee design quality for calculations, drawings, specifications, and deliverables.
- Oversees or supports coordination of team specific appointments, calendars, and meetings.
- Prepares communications, such as memos, emails, invoices, reports, and other correspondence.
- Creates and completes annual and ongoing division and team documentation such as utilization reports, budget worksheets, etc.
- Prepare design calculations, construction documents, technical specifications, cost estimates, bid evaluation and permitting as necessary.
- Works on multiple projects concurrently, monitoring project budgets and schedules, and being responsible for overseeing the technical work of multiple team members.
- Manage and mentor division staff and any administrative team member(s) to ascertain coordination, completeness, accuracy of technical requirements and day-to-day operations.
- Contribute to the development of marketing materials and assist with marketing proposal submissions in response to firm qualifications.
- Works with Marketing and the Client Relations Team to identify and pursue new business opportunities, fostering strategic partnerships, and expanding their assigned division and overall firm’s market presence to drive sustainable revenue growth.
- Review and develop design fee proposals for new project opportunities.
- Coverage and work with other internal DMA disciplines for a complete proposal response.
- Understands and supports the billing and financial aspects of projects and overall office performance and management of resources for success in meeting project and management goals.
- Works with other company and division leadership to update and develop in-house processes and documents as necessary including but not limited to project policies, training guides and other support documentation.
- Lead and support office and companywide lunch-and-learns, new employee and ongoing training.
- Supports division and company recruitment with guidance and support from the In-House Recruiter/HR Generalist through virtual and in-person interviews, negotiations, and onboarding processes.
- Sign/seal drawings or other required documentation based on division and firm policies.
- Develops and delivers annual employee reviews and performance evaluations.
- Follow and abide by the DMA employee and safety manuals.
Requirements
- An industry relevant Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from a four-year college or university is required.
- A Masters’ degree in Civil Engineering is preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive engineering experience, including technical leadership and staff oversight.
- Demonstrated experience with division, department, and/or project-level financial responsibility.
- Demonstrated experience in building strong internal teams and external client relationships.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer (PE) in at least one jurisdiction is required for all engineering-based roles o Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland are preferred.
