Unit Overview
The Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper – South Jersey’s only acute-care children’s hospital – provides advanced diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care for children with surgical needs. From premature infants with congenital birth defects to adolescents needing trauma care, our pediatric surgery team delivers expert solutions with a compassionate, kid-friendly approach. Our team is dedicated to delivering specialized care to families throughout the region. Children's Regional offers pediatric surgical care 24/7, with same-day surgery available at our main hospital in Camden. As the only Level II Pediatric Trauma Center in South Jersey offering pediatric surgical services, we are equipped and skilled to respond quickly when urgent care is needed. Cooper treats a wide range of conditions, including hernia repair, appendix removal, inflammatory bowel disease, and gastrointestinal reflux disease, among others so children receive the care they need while staying close to home.
Short Description
The Division Head is the physician leader of a clinical division within a Department, Center, or Institute, who leads programs and initiatives to achieve positive outcomes in Cooper’s four pillars: Quality & High Reliability, Cooper Experience, Education & Research, and Growth & Finance, while also serving as a leader within the Medical Staff and the CMSRU.
Role & Responsibilities
Provide strategic oversight and clinical leadership for the Pediatric Surgery division, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, safe, and evidence-based care.
Supervise and mentor faculty within division
Develop and implement divisional goals, policies, and quality initiatives in alignment with hospital and departmental objectives.
Collaborate with hospital leadership to optimize resource allocation, staffing, and budgeting for the division.
Lead program development, including expansion of surgical services, research initiatives, and interdisciplinary care programs.
Education & Research
Promote academic growth, research, and innovation within the division.
Oversee training programs for residents and fellows, ensuring high educational standards.
Quality & Compliance
Monitor clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction metrics, implementing quality improvement initiatives.
Ensure compliance with regulatory, licensure, and accreditation standards.
Serve as a liaison to hospital committees and external organizations regarding pediatric surgical care standards.
Foster a culture of collaboration across multidisciplinary teams, including neonatology, pediatric critical care, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, pediatric hospitalists and trauma.
Education Requirements
MD or DO from an accredited institution
Active New Jersey medical license
Completion of an accredited pediatric surgery training program
Innovative spirit in the clinical setting, superior teamwork with interdisciplinary collaborative approach, desire to work with underserved populations
Experience Required
Support the academic, clinical, and educational missions of our program including creating scholarly work, improving quality metrics, and creating a positive learning environment
Build an active clinical practice, develop areas of productive scholarship, and recruit additional faculty
Influence the direction of our program, and join like-minded faculty committed to our mission of being at the cutting edge of Pediatric Surgery!
Licenses/Certifications
NJ medical license
Board certification in Pediatric surgery
Special Requirements
At least 8 years of attending-level clinical experience.
