About the role

The Division of Pulmonary Medicine seeks a dynamic and innovative Division Director. The division is consistently recognized as one of the best in the nation, recently ranked the #2 Pulmonology and Lung Surgery Program in the nation by U.S. News & World Report (2025–26). Organized around several specialized programs and centers, the division fosters clinical excellence, multidisciplinary collaboration, and team science across the full spectrum of pediatric pulmonary and sleep disorders.

Research highlights

The division has a strong track record of extramural funding supporting a broad research portfolio spanning basic, translational, clinical, and health services research. Major areas include:

• Laboratory-based research in cystic fibrosis and gene therapy.
• Clinical and translational research in asthma, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, lung imaging, and pulmonary vascular disease.
• Computational fluid dynamics applied to airway disorders and pulmonary circulation.
• Sleep and circadian biology.
• Health services and healthcare delivery science to improve quality, efficiency, and outcomes for children with respiratory disorders.
• An NIH/NIDDK-funded P30 Personalized Cystic Fibrosis Therapy and Cystic Fibrosis Research Development Program (RDP).
• Advanced imaging programs using hyperpolarized xenon MRI and computational modeling to characterize airway structure, motion, and airflow.
• Collaboration with the Division of Pulmonary Biology linking clinical cohorts with prospective consent, biobanking, iPSC models, pulmonary pathology, and mechanistic studies.

Training programs

• Two ACGME-accredited fellowship programs: Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine Fellowship and Sleep Fellowship.
• One non-ACGME-accredited bronchology fellowship.
• Over 12 years of NIH T35 funding supporting 12 first-year medical students annually in mentored summer research projects.
• Jointly supported T32 training program with the Division of Pulmonary Biology dedicated to early-career investigator development.

Qualifications and Experience

• M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. with board certification in pediatric pulmonology.
• Ability to obtain State of Ohio Medical Board licensure.
• Rank of associate or full professor with eligibility for appointment as an affiliated faculty at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
• Strong national and international reputation in pediatric pulmonology.
• Track record of successfully implementing new initiatives in academic medicine and clinical care.
• Accomplishment in faculty leadership, people management, and planning/facilitation skills.
• Sustained excellence in research productivity, clinical care, and/or mentorship/teaching of trainees and junior faculty.
• Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws and regulations.
• Experience in a complex, integrated academic medical setting.
• Personal style that facilitates communication, collaboration, trust, credibility, and confidence among divisional faculty and across the health system.
