Division Chief of General Anesthesiology, Academic Clinician - CHOP

About the role

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position in the non-tenure academic clinician track.

Expertise is required in the specific area of Anesthesiology with a focus on Pediatric Anesthesiology. ABA certification with subspecialty certification or board eligibility in Pediatric Anesthesiology and Pennsylvania licensure are required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee personnel in the Division of General Anesthesiology
• Manage clinical operations in the Division of General Anesthesiology
• Lead the Division of General Anesthesiology in achieving the Department’s tripartite mission of excellence in clinical care, education, and research
• Oversee the clinical, research, and educational activities of the Division
• Lead recruiting efforts in the Division
• Provide career development and mentoring for all Division faculty and fellows
• Conduct annual performance reviews for Division faculty

Requirements

Applicants must have an M.D. or equivalent degree.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a complex, multi-site division with diverse clinical programs. The Division Chief reports to the Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine and works closely with the other Division Chiefs, the Associate Chairs, and the Vice Chair in the Department.

Skills

Evidence of academic productivity and leadership in projects related to an area of focus will be required.

Benefits

The Division leads multiple robust clinical programs, including fetal-maternal anesthesia, acute and chronic pain, neuroanesthesia, and proton therapy. With support from the Anesthesia Resource Center, the Division staffs over 40 care sites daily across various locations, including the main operating room, the special delivery unit, oncology clinic, gastroenterology suite, sedation unit, interventional radiology, MRI, proton therapy, and three ambulatory surgery centers in addition to the Philadelphia Campus and King of Prussia Campus. In total, the Division provides over 45,000 anesthetics annually.

Rank will be commensurate with experience.
