Division Chief, Hematology and Oncology/Medical Director of the University Medical Center (UMC) TLC

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) is seeking an accomplished, visionary physician leader to serve as Chief of the Division of Hematology & Oncology in the Department of Internal Medicine and Medical Director of the University Medical Center (UMC) TLC² Foundation Cancer Center. This role anchors UMC’s new 124,000 sq. ft. comprehensive academic cancer center, which opened in April 2026.

About the Role

The selected leader will provide strategic, clinical, academic, and operational leadership for the Division and the Cancer Center, positioning it as the premier destination for complex oncology care across West Texas and Eastern New Mexico. The role bridges the academic missions of TTUHSC with the operational excellence of UMC, serving a catchment area of 260,000 square miles and 3 million people.

The UMC TLC² Foundation Cancer Center features:

• Advanced radiation oncology
• Infusion & chemotherapy services
• Outpatient adult and pediatric oncology clinics
• Two pharmacies: dedicated infusion pharmacy and specialty pharmacy
• Dedicated research space and clinical trials infrastructure (Phase I-III)
• Integrative medicine services (acupuncture, massage, art/music therapy, yoga, nutrition)
• Strong philanthropic support

Responsibilities

Division Chief, Hematology & Oncology

• Provide strategic, clinical, academic, and operational leadership for the Division and Cancer Center
• Develop a premier multidisciplinary oncology program recognized regionally
• Direct multi-disciplinary clinical services spanning pediatric through adult care, including surgery, radiation oncology, and palliative care
• Expand clinical trials (Phase I-III) and strengthen collaborations with NCI-, DoD-, and CPRIT-funded researchers
• Advance academic scholarship and increase extramural funding
• Retain, recruit, mentor, and develop Hematology/Oncology faculty
• Oversee the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program
• Engage in direct patient care, supervision, and teaching

Medical Director, UMC TLC² Cancer Center

• Provide overarching strategic, clinical, and academic leadership to position the Cancer Center as the regional leader in complex oncology care
• Drive integration of multidisciplinary care models and continuous quality improvement
• Champion physician engagement, faculty development, and oncology fellowship programs
• Accelerate clinical trial accruals and expand translational research infrastructure
• Lead strategic physician recruitment, onboarding, and mentorship
• Align TTUHSC’s academic missions with UMC’s operational and clinical excellence
• Serve as an institutional ambassador across academic, corporate, philanthropic, and community forums

Requirements

• MD/DO degree
• ABMS Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Hematology & Oncology
• 5+ years of clinical practice
• 2+ years of clinical leadership experience (5+ years preferred)
• Demonstrated success in clinical trials, scholarship, and extramural funding (preferred)

About the Division & Cancer Center

The Hematology & Oncology Division at TTUHSC includes 6 faculty with expertise in hematologic diseases and malignancies. The division is recognized for publications in peer-reviewed journals and collaborations with the Southwest Cancer and Research Center, as well as international partnerships.

The UMC TLC² Foundation Cancer Center is a 124,000 sq. ft., $125 million facility opened in April 2026, featuring:

• 51 exam rooms and 6 procedural rooms
• Blue Bonnet Boutique and specialty pharmacy
• Integrative Medicine program
• Radiation Oncology clinic with six exam rooms
• Pediatric Hematology and Oncology program with 6 infusion bays and 1 private room
• Imaging services (PET/CT and MRI)
• Two Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators
• Fast Track Symptom Management Clinic
• 41 adult infusion bays and 6 private rooms
• 4,000 sq. ft. dedicated to clinical trials
