Division Chief, General Surgery | Shape the Future of Academic Surgery at IU Health

About the role

The Indiana University School of Medicine and Indiana University Health Medical Group are seeking a Division Chief for General Surgery. The Division Chief will lead the division in providing comprehensive surgical services, including colon & rectal surgery, minimally invasive surgery, bariatric surgery, hernia surgery, and general surgery. The division is also home to a nationally recognized Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery program.

Responsibilities

• Establish annual academic priorities
• Mentor the faculty
• Conduct comprehensive annual faculty reviews
• Actively participate in graduate medical education
• Think strategically and reorganize care delivery across the Indianapolis metro region and beyond
• Oversight of research initiatives
• Ensure strong division financial performance
• Lead the development and management of a substantial operating budget and annual discretionary funds
• Prepare and present financial and operational performance reports
• Foster effective collaboration with all functional areas across the Department of Surgery, IU Health Medical Group, affiliated hospitals, and partner physician organizations

Requirements

• A medical degree (MD, MD/MPH, MD/MBA, MD/PhD, DO) or equivalent with completion of an ACGME-accredited general surgery residency
• Board certified in Surgery or their appropriate surgical subspecialty
• Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of associate or full professor
• Relevant administrative experience and evidence of effective interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills
• A history of academic leadership, industry or grant-funded research (desired, but not required), and a nationally recognized reputation in general surgery
• Possession of, or eligibility for, an unrestricted medical license in the State of Indiana
