Diversion Counselor

POSITION SUMMARY

Provides counseling and related services to juveniles and adults charged with crimes. Work involves assessing juveniles and adults for the diversion program and developing and implementing diversion plans. The program provides alternative treatment/punishment for first time offenders.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Reviews juvenile and adult case reports and identifies those suitable for diversion.
  • Counsels juvenile and adult offenders.
  • Explains to interested parties the diversion program and its benefits.
  • Develops individual diversion plans for offenders; coordinate plans with other agencies, individuals and entities involved.
  • Maintains liaison on cases with schools, law enforcement and community agencies.
  • Maintains program records and files and prepares correspondence and reports.
  • Speaks before community and school groups.
  • Accepts and receipts program fees.

EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Counseling, Social Work or Criminal Justice field required.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in Counseling, Social Work or Criminal Justice required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Fluent in Spanish preferred.
