District Safety Coordinator
Safety and Security Program Development
Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety policies, procedures, and training programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
Conduct and oversee risk assessments and security audits to identify vulnerabilities and recommend improvements.
Serve as the case manager and administrative coordinator of the Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines (CSTAG) program to identify and support students who present a potential risk of violence/aggression, self-harm, or other self-destructive behavior.
Collaborate with school psychologists, counselors, and student services staff in developing appropriate intervention and support plans.
Lead the development and implementation of district-wide emergency response plans, including drills and training exercises.
Oversee the district's crisis management team and facilitate emergency preparedness training for staff and students.
Lead the district safety committee and coordinate with individual building-based safety teams to ensure coordinated safety efforts across all schools.
Review, maintain, and continuously update the district's Emergency Plan annually and whenever changes or updates are needed.
Monitor and document all school-safety drills and plans to ensure statutory drill numbers are met.
Work with building administrators to update and review School Emergency Team information and Emergency Operations Plans.
Provide support for building administrators during critical incidents and appropriate resources for response.
Perform crisis management and preemptive planning activities.
Organize and oversee emergency training for district faculty and staff.
Work collaboratively with student services staff to integrate trauma-informed and restorative practices into safety protocols and crisis response procedures.
Review physical and mental safety processes in place throughout the district and work with administrators and directors to address any issues.
Crisis Communication & Community Engagement
Provide omnichannel emergency communication to the Oxford Hills community and MSAD #17 staff via multiple means and modalities.
Support the District with safety-related communication during emergencies, working in coordination with the Superintendent and building administrators.
Develop and execute a clear, timely, and accurate communication strategy for safety incidents, ensuring that students, staff, parents, first responders, and the community remain informed.
Provide ongoing safety updates and resources to the school community.
Work with district leadership to create and distribute public messaging regarding school safety initiatives and emergency response plans.
Manage media relations and develop contacts with media members, influencers, and community leaders.
Aid in the creation of digital, video, audio, and print content related to safety communications.
Maintain accurate documents, files, and records for all work-related activities.
Crisis Communication & Community Engagement
Coordinate with individual building-based safety teams to offer broader perspectives and information that supports building administrators.
Outreach & Partnership Development
Build and maintain strong relationships with local law enforcement, fire departments, emergency management agencies, and community organizations.
Facilitate collaboration with first responders to enhance coordinated emergency response strategies.
Serve as the district liaison to external safety agencies and participate in local and regional safety initiatives.
Serve as liaison between the district and local police departments, school resource officers, fire departments, and emergency management personnel.
Partner with mental health professionals, school psychologists, and community organizations to support comprehensive approaches to school safety and student well-being.
Attend training specific to the duties assigned to remain current with best practices and industry standards.
