Summary Of Duties

Under the direct supervision of the infant/toddler center teacher, provides care and supervision to infants and toddlers up to three years of age; demonstrates proper parenting techniques to teen mothers; ensures the health and safety of children; provides for children's physical needs such as feeding, diapering and toileting; maintains a clean and orderly environment; monitors behavior and children's activities as assigned for the care and nurturing of infants and toddlers in a child development environment; maintains records; and performs other related duties as required.

Employment Requirements

  • EDUCATION: Graduation from high school or its equivalency is required.
    • Incumbents must complete six (6) semester or equivalent quarter units in early childhood education or child development within one year from the date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
      • Three (3) of those units must be in infant/toddler care.
  • EXPERIENCE: Six months of experience working with infants/toddlers or preschool children required. Experience working with high school students is desirable.
  • LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: The ability to speak and read Spanish fluently is required.

Examination

  • EXAMINATION – OPEN PROMOTIONAL WITH DUAL CERTIFICATION: The examination will consist of an oral interview which will evaluate your knowledge of:
    • children’s developmental stages from infant to three years of age;
    • safe practices and procedures related to the care and supervision of infants and toddlers including personal hygiene;
    • age appropriate play activities for infants and toddlers;
    • and your ability to:
      • understand and anticipate the needs of children;
      • communicate with infants and toddlers using appropriate language;
      • assist teachers in the care and supervision of infants and toddlers;
      • establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents and children from a variety of ethnic backgrounds;
      • and speak clearly and concisely.
  • In addition, the language proficiency test will evaluate your ability to speak and read Spanish fluently.
  • EXAMINATION WEIGHTS: Interview – 100% Language Proficiency - Pass/Fail

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

  • APPOINTMENT: Candidates who pass the testing process will be placed on an eligibility list in rank order after promotional credits are added to the test scores of promotional candidates.
    • Current employees must include with their application, verification of participation in professional growth training or continuing education within the last two years to receive promotional points.
  • The top three ranks of eligibles who are ready and willing to accept the position shall be referred to the hiring administrator for interview.
  • Eligibility lists are normally established for one (1) year, but may be extended up to two additional years.
  • All new employees are subject to passing a physical examination, tuberculosis test, background review and must provide satisfactory evidence of authorization to work in the United States.
  • Employment start date is contingent upon fingerprinting and criminal background clearance.
  • New employees will be charged a processing fee (approximately $66) for the cost of fingerprinting.
  • The eligible selected must successfully serve a probationary period of six (6) months.

ADVANCED SALARY STEP PLACEMENT

  • Employees are normally placed at Step A of the salary range for that classification.
  • Placement at other than Step A for applicants may be made when there is recruitment difficulty or when the training and experience of the individual selected is significantly higher than the minimum qualifications.
  • (An eligible must request such placement prior to the effective date of the regular appointment with the hiring supervisor at the time of the interview or at the time the job offer is extended.)

BENEFITS

  • are earned by all regular full-time and part-time classified employees as listed below:
    • Vacation: Employees with one to five years of service earn vacation at the rate of one (1) day for each month in paid status for a maximum of 12 vacation days per year.
      • The number of vacation days earned progressively increases as provided in the RUSD-CSEA Agreement, Appendix A.
    • Part-time employees earn vacation benefits prorated on the average number of hours worked per day per month in their regular assignments.
    • Holidays: Thirteen (13) paid holidays are earned each year and one (1) floating holiday per calendar year.
    • Sick Leave: One (1) day of sick leave is earned for each full month of service which may be accumulated from year to year.
    • Employees who transfer from another California school district, including a county superintendent of schools office, who have accrued sick leave may transfer it to this District.
    • HEALTH INSURANCE: Employees whose regular work assignment is thirty hours or more per week are eligible to participate in the District's insurance program which consists of major medical insurance, dental insurance, vision, life insurance and income protection.
