About the Role

This position maximizes store sales through excellent customer service, product availability, merchandising, and maintaining an exceptional store image. You will provide leadership and direction to store managers, manage controllable costs, ensure compliance with policies and regulations, and contribute to the overall profitability and success of store operations.

Responsibilities

  • Maximize store sales through customer service, product availability, and merchandising.
  • Provide store management with recaps of promotional activity, business opportunities, results, trends, and competitive information.
  • Manage controllable costs, including merchandise variation, salaries, overtime, cash, repair, and maintenance expenses.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to implement promotions and new product introductions.
  • Provide feedback to category managers regarding stock issues and partner with vendors to ensure product availability.
  • Ensure timely execution of monthly promotions and professional vendor performance.
  • Manage store profitability by overseeing cash, merchandise variation, salaries, and other controllable expenses on the P&L.
  • Enforce compliance with policies, procedures, and government regulations, including restricted sales policies.
  • Maintain a safe and secure working environment through safety practices, communication, and training.
  • Achieve financial objectives by forecasting requirements, preparing budgets, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions.
  • Provide leadership and direction to store managers, including recruiting, selection, orientation, training, and performance appraisals.
  • Establish job expectations, provide coaching, and develop action plans for issue resolution.
  • Administer counseling notices and initiate corrective actions as needed.
  • Implement non-discriminatory management practices in hiring, training, counseling, motivating, and employee separation.
  • Adhere to company policies regarding legal, ethical, and moral practices.
  • Enhance professional knowledge through educational workshops, professional publications, networking, and participation in professional societies.
  • Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing financial and key result area targets according to company plan guidelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field preferred; equivalent combinations of experience and education may be substituted.
  • Three to five years of retail business experience, including a minimum of two years in a management role.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, strong communication skills, self-direction, self-motivation, and a customer service orientation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to supervise and train store managers in the use of store equipment, tools, and materials.
  • Proficiency with MS Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word preferred.
  • A current, valid driver’s license is required to operate a company vehicle.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to sit, talk, and hear.
  • Frequently required to use hands to handle or grasp items of varying weight.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with both hands and arms.
  • Occasionally lift and/or carry up to 60 pounds from ground to waist level for up to 30 minutes a workday (e.g., replenishing fountain syrups).
  • Occasionally lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds from ground to overhead for up to 30 minutes a workday (e.g., stocking/maintaining inventory levels).
  • Occasionally lift and/or carry up to 40 pounds from ground to waist for up to 30 minutes a workday (e.g., stocking/maintaining inventory levels).
  • Ability to push and pull with arms up to a force of 20 pounds (e.g., utilizing a hand truck).
  • Ability to climb a ladder to store or retrieve materials and place or replace signage.

Work Environment

  • Moderate noise levels in a typical retail environment.
  • Lighting includes natural light and fluorescent lighting.
  • Temperatures are usually moderate but may occasionally involve exposure to extreme temperatures (e.g., walk-in coolers/freezers).
  • Position may require up to 50% travel by car.
