District Controller

About the role

The District Controller is a critical tactical and strategic management position, reporting to the platform company Vice President of Finance with dotted-line reporting to the Division President. This role is a key leadership position in managing the company and developing both short-term and long-term strategy. The District Controller acts as a true "business partner," collaborating across all functional areas and enhancing the company culture internally as well as with customers, suppliers, and key third parties.

Responsibilities

• Partner with the Vice President of Finance to develop and implement financial and operational goals, policies, priorities, strategies, linked metrics, and procedures, including budgeting and accounting.
• Oversee financial and operational reporting for multiple Sciens Division locations.
• Establish and continuously improve sound internal financial management control systems.
• Lead the preparation of ongoing financial statements and operating reports, ensuring compliance with GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
• Review financial statements and operating reports with stakeholders, including gap analysis and performance improvement recommendations.
• Ensure timely and accurate processing of transactions and accounting data, maintaining legal and regulatory compliance for all financial functions.
• Oversee compliance with DOL, IRS, 401(k), medical regulations, and DCAA requirements for publicly-funded projects.
• Coordinate with CPA firms for external audits, GAAP financial reporting, tax compliance, and annual audits.
• Prepare and deliver the monthly business review package and reporting to the platform Vice President of Finance.
• Analyze daily, weekly, and monthly reports of key financial and operational metrics.
• Develop strategies to enhance cash flow and working capital positions.
• Assess organizational performance against budgets with functional leaders and the management team.
• Manage ongoing banking, bonding requirements, and ERP system deployment and operation.
• Ensure all employees embrace the company’s safety culture and comply with safety initiatives.
• Occasional travel, including overnight, if necessary.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA preferred; MBA desired.
• Minimum of 5-10 years of experience as a Controller.
• Experience managing multiple locations.
• Strong cost accounting skills, including standard costing processes and percentage of completion (POC) revenue recognition.
• Solid inventory management skills.
