About the Role

This position involves a variety of material handling and inventory duties within a warehouse environment. The role is essential to maintaining the continuity of operations, including during emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform stock selection, stow, research, location survey, and physical inventory.
  • Handle, examine, and identify materials.
  • Pack and preserve a variety of items, determining appropriate materials, containers, and preservatives.
  • Receive, unload, and process incoming shipments; verify accompanying documentation against container or packing labels.
  • Report overages, shortages, misdirected, or damaged materials following established procedures.
  • Assemble items for shipment according to shipping requests; check the condition of shipping containers prior to loading.
  • Ensure shipments are properly loaded onto the correct conveyances.
  • Count and tally items during inventories; recount or search other storage locations to resolve discrepancies.
  • Operate material handling equipment (MHE) such as forklifts (up to 15,000 pounds capacity), warehouse tractors, or general-purpose vehicles.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Non-Critical Sensitive position with Secret Access; appointment subject to a favorable suitability or fitness determination.
  • Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Non-Exempt.
  • Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.
  • Bargaining Unit Status: Yes.
  • Must possess or obtain a REAL ID or acceptable identification for federal facility access.
  • Designated as a Mission Essential employee; may be required to work during emergencies at the duty location, telework site, or alternate facility.
  • Pre-employment physical required.
  • Subject to Overseas Rotation Agreement with a 36-month tour length.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Material Handling Equipment (MHE) license and any other required licenses or certifications.

Qualifications

Applicants will be evaluated based on the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. While no specific length of experience is required, you must demonstrate through experience and training that you possess the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the duties at the required level. Emphasis is placed on the quality of experience rather than the duration. Volunteer experience (e.g., through National Service programs like Peace Corps or AmeriCorps) is also considered.

Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element will be eliminated from further consideration.

Physical Effort and Working Conditions

  • Stands on hard surfaces for extended periods; involves bending, stooping, and working in tiring or uncomfortable positions.
  • Lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 pounds; uses weight handling equipment or receives assistance for heavier items.
  • Works in environments that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, poorly lit, or outdoors.
  • Exposed to potential hazards such as cuts, scrapes, bruises, muscle strain, noise, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock.
  • Required to wear protective clothing, including steel-toed shoes, respirators, safety glasses, and earplugs.
  • Mechanized roller conveyors are a normal part of material routing and distribution.
