Distribution Interconnections Planning Engineer

About the Role

The Interconnections Planning Distribution Engineer position offers opportunities to gain experience with Distributed Energy Resource (DER) modeling, area contingency studies, and real-world applications in Georgia's growing renewable energy sector, including solar, battery storage, and biomass technology.

The successful candidate will provide technical review and support for DG projects, learn about energy procurement programs, and collaborate closely with SCS and GPC workgroups such as Customer Programs, Renewable Development, Distribution Reliability, Area Planning, Transmission Interconnections, and area Power Delivery teams. This role ensures new interconnections safely meet the needs of GPC, its customers, and communities.

For candidates not currently residing in the Metro Atlanta area, relocation assistance may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Responsibilities

• Perform technical review and support for Distributed Generation (DG) projects.
• Engage in Distributed Energy Resource (DER) modeling and area contingency studies.
• Collaborate with internal workgroups (e.g., Customer Programs, Renewable Development, Distribution Reliability, Area Planning, Transmission Interconnections, and Power Delivery teams) to ensure safe and effective interconnections.
• Support the implementation of renewable energy technologies, including solar, battery storage, and biomass.
