We're seeking a Distribution Engineering Supervisor in Oahu, Hawaii, passionate about electric utility design engineering. You'll work directly with utility clients to maintain Leidos' reputation for excellence while leading a talented team supporting one of the nation's most unique electric utility systems.

About the role

This position is based on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. Candidates are expected to relocate to Oahu to support local utility customers, projects, and team. A competitive relocation package is available for eligible hires.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of 5-8 engineers to develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV, primarily for programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspection and maintenance, joint use, and inspection reports.
  • Oversee projects including grid hardening and reliability, substation optimization, joint use make-ready, and street light projects.
  • Develop work packages using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools, Work Management Systems (WMS), and other client systems.
  • Oversee day-to-day assignments for direct reports and serve as the technical lead for engineers/designers.
  • Train junior engineers, designers, and entry-level designers/technicians.
  • Maintain project scope, schedule, and budget under the Engineering Manager.
  • Review work provided by clients and assess scope requirements.
  • Communicate work progress, technical issues, and schedules clearly with clients.
  • Comply with Leidos and client safety requirements, design, and quality expectations.
  • Develop permitting documents for different Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
  • Coordinate with permit agencies, right-of-way specialists, system owners, field leaders, forestry leaders, and third-party owners for joint-owned poles.
  • Travel to sites and customer meetings as needed (15-25% travel).
  • Perform engineering calculations, including structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, conductor sags and tensions, voltage drop, and flicker.
  • Conduct QA/QC reviews of work by other engineers for client submittals.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure compliance with engineering and construction standards.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of prior relevant experience.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET-accredited institution; additional relevant experience/certifications may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
  • Experience with NESC Standards, MicroStation and/or AutoCAD, and Bluebeam and/or Adobe.
  • Proven experience in designing distribution systems for overhead (OH), underground (UG), or underground residential distribution (URD) environments.
  • Experience with ESRI and GIS is a plus.
  • Proficiency with distribution design tools such as O-Calc and SAG10; BOUD, Pole Foreman, and Spida-Calc experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to review other engineers' designs with a detailed eye for errors.
  • Experience monitoring scopes and tracking others' work progress.
  • Prior team leadership experience is a plus.
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and utilize a personal vehicle.

Pay

Pay Range: $73,450.00 - $132,775.00. The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreements, or other law.
