Distribution Engineering Supervisor
About the role
Leidos is seeking a Distribution Engineering Supervisor in Oahu, Hawaii who is passionate about electric utility design engineering. You will lead a team of 5-8 engineers to develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV, primarily for programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspection and maintenance, joint use, and inspection reports. Projects may also include grid hardening and reliability, substation optimization, joint use make-ready, and street light initiatives.
This position is based on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, and requires relocation to support local utility customers, projects, and the team. A competitive relocation package is available for eligible hires.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of engineers to develop design and construction work packages using GIS, CAD tools, Work Management Systems (WMS), and other client systems.
- Oversee day-to-day assignments for direct reports and serve as the technical lead for engineers and designers.
- Train junior engineers, designers, and entry-level technicians.
- Maintain project scope, schedule, and budget under the Engineering Manager’s guidance.
- Review work provided by clients and assess scope requirements.
- Communicate work progress, technical issues, and schedules clearly with clients.
- Comply with Leidos and client safety requirements, design standards, and quality expectations.
- Develop permitting documents for various Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
- Coordinate with permit agencies, right-of-way specialists, system owners, field leaders, forestry leaders, and third-party owners for joint-owned poles.
- Travel to sites and customer meetings as needed (15-25% travel).
- Perform engineering calculations, including structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, conductor sags and tensions, voltage drop, and flicker.
- Conduct QA/QC reviews of work by other engineers before client submittal.
- Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure compliance with standards.
- Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design.
Requirements
- 4+ years of prior relevant experience in distribution engineering.
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET-accredited institution; additional relevant experience or certifications may substitute for a degree.
- Experience with NESC Standards, MicroStation and/or AutoCAD, and Bluebeam and/or Adobe.
- Proven experience designing distribution systems for overhead (OH), underground (UG), or underground residential (URD) environments.
- Proficiency with distribution design tools such as O-Calc and SAG10; experience with BOUD, Pole Foreman, and Spida-Calc is a plus.
- Experience with ESRI and GIS is a plus.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail for reviewing engineering designs.
- Experience monitoring scopes and tracking work progress.
- Prior team leadership experience is a plus.
- Willingness to perform both field and office work, including outdoor environments.
- Ability to utilize a personal vehicle.

Pay
Pay Range: $73,450.00 - $132,775.00. The Leidos pay range is a general guideline and not a guarantee of compensation. Additional factors such as job responsibilities, education, experience, knowledge, skills, internal equity, market data, and applicable bargaining agreements may influence the final offer.
