Distribution Engineer

We’re seeking Distribution Engineers & Designers in the Eastern, PA region who are passionate about electric utility design engineering. You'll work directly with clients to ensure high-quality project delivery and maintain Leidos' reputation for excellence.
About the role
This position offers remote-working capabilities, but candidates must be located within a commutable distance of Eastern, PA to support our local utility customer. The selected candidate will be expected to attend in-person meetings and assignments throughout the customer territory in Pennsylvania as needed.
You'll gain expertise in areas including NESC, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS design training, Field Data Collection, and Client Design Standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform design engineering for Leidos electric utility customers.
- Develop work packages for OH, UG, URD, and Make Ready using customer GIS and WMS systems such as EFD, AUD, Smallworld, ArcGIS, Infor, EAM, STORMS, and Maximo.
- Manage scope, schedule, and budget of assigned work, including planning and customer follow-up.
- Perform scope analysis and maintain schedule adherence to advocate client priorities.
- Initiate continuous improvement to workflow processes for efficiency and high-quality standards in client design deliverables.
- Coordinate conflicting utilities and field engineering design requirements, assess and develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments.
- Develop work permits, easements, and ROW applications.
- Conduct local or regional customer-site visits to collect field data for developing work packages.
Requirements
- 2+ years of prior relevant experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial preferred); additional relevant experience/certifications may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Experience and demonstrated proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
- Prior experience with structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault currents calculations.
- Ability to provide reliable transportation for local or regional customer-related travel (reimbursed at IRS-approved rates).
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred Skills
- Providing estimated costs and development of a Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Calculating the Contribution in Aid of Construction (CIAC).
- Design tools such as Pole Foreman, Pull Planner, and Katapult.
- Work management software and job estimating software.
- CAD or MicroStation for Electrical Distribution design.

Pay
Pay Range: $59,150.00 - $106,925.00. The Leidos pay range is a general guideline and not a guarantee of compensation. Additional factors considered include job responsibilities, education, experience, knowledge, skills, internal equity, market data, and applicable bargaining agreements.
