Distribution Engineer

About the Role

Leidos is seeking Distribution Engineers in Maui, HI, and Oahu, HI, who are passionate about electric utility design engineering. This role involves working directly with utility clients to maintain Leidos' reputation for excellence while leading a talented team supporting one of the nation's most unique electric utility systems.

Location & Relocation

These positions are based on the islands of Maui, HI, and Oahu, HI. Candidates are expected to relocate to support local utility customers, projects, and the team. A competitive relocation package is offered for eligible hires.

Responsibilities

• Independently develop design and construction work packages for moderately complex electrical overhead and underground distribution systems (4kV through 138kV), primarily associated with programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspection and maintenance, joint use, and inspection reports.
• Review work provided by the Client and assess scope requirements.
• Assist other technical staff with tasks and assignments.
• Develop permitting documents for different AHJs.
• Coordinate with permit agencies, right-of-way specialists, system owners, field leaders, forestry leaders, and 3rd party owners for joint-owned poles.
• Coordinate across multiple internal areas, including Project Managers and Technical Resources.
• Explain technical solutions, practices, and procedures within the organization.
• Travel to sites and attend Customer meetings as needed.
• Perform engineering calculations (e.g., structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, conductor sags and tensions, voltage drop, and flicker).
• Review work by other engineers for submittal to Clients.
• Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure compliance with engineering and construction standards.
• Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design.
• Comply with Leidos and Client safety, design, and quality expectations.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of prior relevant experience.
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET-accredited institution; additional relevant experience/certifications may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
• Experience with NESC Standards, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, and Bluebeam and/or Adobe.
• Experience with ESRI and GIS is a plus.
• Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, Spida-Calc, O-Calc.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to perform both field and office work, with potential overnight travel (15-25%).
• Ability to work in outdoor environments and utilize a personal vehicle.

Pay Range

$59,150.00 - $106,925.00. The pay range is a general guideline and not a guarantee of compensation. Additional factors considered include responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, and applicable laws.
