We’re seeking Distribution Engineers & Designers in the Eastern, PA region who are passionate about electric utility design engineering. You’ll work directly with clients to maintain Leidos' reputation for high-quality work and gain expertise in areas including NESC, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS design training, Field Data Collection, and Client Design Standards.

About the role

This position has remote-working capabilities, but candidates must be located within a commutable distance of Eastern, PA to support our local utility customer as needed. The selected candidate(s) will be expected to be available for in-person meetings and assignments throughout the customer territory in Pennsylvania on an as-needed basis.

Responsibilities

  • Perform design engineering for Leidos electric utility customers
  • Develop work packages for OH, UG, URD, and Make Ready, using customer GIS and WMS systems such as EFD, AUD, Smallworld, ArcGIS, Infor, EAM, STORMS, and Maximo
  • Manage scope, schedule, and budget of assigned work; perform functional tasks, planning, and/or customer follow-up
  • Perform scope analysis of work assigned and maintain schedule adherence to advocate client priorities
  • Initiate continuous improvement to workflow processes that drive efficiency and high-quality standards in client design deliverables
  • Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements
  • Assess and develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments
  • Develop work permits, easements, and ROW applications
  • Work in both field and office settings, including local or regional customer-site visits to collect field data for developing work packages

Requirements

  • 2+ years of prior relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial preferred); additional relevant experience/certifications may be considered in lieu of bachelor’s degree
  • Experience and demonstrated proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC)
  • Prior experience with structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault currents calculations
  • Ability to provide your own reliable transportation for local or regional customer-related travel (reimbursed at IRS-approved rates)
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Skills

  • Providing estimated costs and development of a Bill of Materials (BOM)
  • Calculating the CIAC (Contribution in Aid of Construction)
  • Design tools such as Pole Foreman, Pull Planner, and Katapult
  • Work management software and job estimating software
  • CAD or MicroStation for Electrical Distribution design

Pay

Pay Range: $59,150.00 - $106,925.00. The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
