Distribution Designer

We're seeking a Distribution Designer passionate about electric utility design engineering to ensure every project—simple or complex—meets exceptional quality standards. You'll work directly with clients to uphold Leidos' reputation for high-quality work while gaining expertise in areas such as NESC, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS design training, Field Data Collection, and Client Design Standards.

About the role

This position offers remote-working capabilities but requires candidates to be located within a commutable distance of our Western PA support areas to provide on-site support to our local utility customer as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform design engineering for Leidos electric utility customers under the supervision of a technical lead.
• Contribute to work packages for OH, UG, URD, Make Ready, and Street Light projects using customer GIS and Work Management systems.
• Collaborate with engineers and design leads on client issues, including schedule adherence and team quality control.
• Manage scope, schedule, and budget of assigned work while complying with quality control and safe work practices.
• Follow standard design guidelines and client requirements to implement designs as part of a team of engineers, designers, and CAD technicians.
• Perform field and office work, including occasional outdoor environments and customer-site visits to collect field data for developing work packages.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; education may be considered in lieu of experience.
• 0+ years of relevant experience.
• Knowledge of drafting principles, techniques, and procedures.
• Ability to create and/or modify drawings from engineer-provided markups with a high level of attention to detail.
• Proficiency with Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
• Strong professional verbal and written communication skills in a team environment.
• Highly organized and efficient, with the ability to work in a fast-paced engineering/production environment.
• Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for customer-related travel (reimbursed at IRS-approved rates).
• Valid U.S. driver's license, as some local or regional travel is expected.
• Willingness to perform both field and office work, including occasional outdoor environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Distribution design and utility client experience.
• Knowledge of protection & control design.
• Experience with file sharing, document management, and collaboration tools such as ProjectWise, FTP, SharePoint, etc.
• Ability to understand and implement a wide range of client CAD standards.

Pay

Pay Range: $35,100.00 - $63,450.00. The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline and not a guarantee of compensation. Additional factors considered include job responsibilities, education, experience, knowledge, skills, internal equity, market data, and applicable bargaining agreements or laws.
