This position may be filled as a Distribution Designer I, II, III, or Senior, depending on the candidate's qualifications and experience. The role is based in Greenville, Mississippi, and requires up to 50% travel.
About the Role
Responsible for meeting with customers to determine electric needs and requirements. Design jobs to install, replace, or remove distribution facilities to support customer requests, reliability projects, or infrastructure improvement.
Responsibilities
- Manage multiple distribution projects for new residential and commercial businesses.
- Meet with customers to determine their service needs.
- Design overhead and underground line extensions, estimate costs, and prepare construction drawings.
- Coordinate construction timelines and lead pre-design and pre-construction meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
- Perform engineering calculations to aid in planning and corrective measure projects (e.g., load studies, revenue justification, fault current, voltage drop).
- Provide leadership and technical support to local operations and ensure contract compliance with distribution design standards and practices.
- Assist the local Right of Way agent with acquiring permits and ROW documents.
- Support storm restoration efforts, including leading or participating in damage assessment activities, both locally and out of town.
Requirements
The minimum requirements vary by level:
- Designer I: Requires one of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree (any discipline), or
- 2-year Technical Associate’s degree, or
- 1-year Electric Utility Distribution (or Transmission) Design experience, or
- Over 2 years of Electric Utility field operational experience (Transmission Line, Substation, Distribution Line, Service, or Field Metering), or
- Department Senior Manager’s (or above) approval in lieu of all requirements.
- Designer II: Requires 2 years of Electric Utility Distribution (or Transmission) Design experience and one of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree (any discipline), or
- 2-year Technical Associate’s degree, or
- 2 additional years of Electric Utility Distribution (or Transmission) Design experience, or
- Over 2 years of Electric Utility field operational experience (Transmission Line, Substation, Distribution Line, Service, or Field Metering), or
- Department Senior Manager’s (or above) approval in lieu of all requirements.
- Designer III: Requires 4 years of Electric Utility Distribution (or Transmission) Design experience and one of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree (any discipline), or
- 2-year Technical Associate’s degree, or
- 2 additional years of Electric Utility Distribution (or Transmission) Design experience, or
- Over 2 years of Electric Utility field operational experience (Transmission Line, Substation, Distribution Line, Service, or Field Metering), or
- Department Senior Manager’s (or above) approval in lieu of all requirements.
- Senior Designer: Requires 6 years of Electric Utility Distribution (or Transmission) Design experience and one of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree (any discipline), or
- 2-year Technical Associate’s degree, or
- 2 additional years of Electric Utility Distribution (or Transmission) Design experience, or
- Over 2 years of Electric Utility field operational experience (Transmission Line, Substation, Distribution Line, Service, or Field Metering), or
- Department Senior Manager’s (or above) approval in lieu of all requirements.
Skills
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency in personal computer operations and related software.
- Basic understanding of electrical theory and ability to interpret construction drawings.
- Ability to manage multiple activities, adapt to changing priorities, and work well under pressure.
- Self-motivated, dependable team player with strong math skills.
- Familiarity with the National Electrical Safety Code and National Electrical Code.
- Commitment to working safely and following all Entergy safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to recognize and mitigate workplace hazards, maintain Company equipment, and safeguard assets.
- Professional and tactful interaction with the public, emphasizing high-level customer service.

Certifications & Licenses
- Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
