Distribution Designer

Responsibilities

  • Receive scope of work and complete distribution designs.
  • Redesign existing lines as needed.
  • Convert overhead systems to underground and vice versa.
  • Perform field visits to collect measurements and photographs.
  • Review site conditions and right-of-way (ROW) requirements.
  • Create and update design maps.
  • Enter point-by-point designs into company systems.
  • Support permitting efforts with city, county, and state agencies.
  • Affiliate with ROW activities as needed.
  • Handle overhead and underground rebuilds, conversions, and substation feeder exits.
  • Manage red-tagged pole replacements and other utility design tasks.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of Utility Distribution Design experience.
  • Experience with electric utilities, although gas utility experience is also considered.
  • Proficiency in distribution design, electric utility design, and SAP.
  • Technical experience with GE Smallworld.
  • Knowledge of fusing coordination, wire sizing, and utility design standards.
  • Familiarity with NESC and/or REC standards.
  • Experience with Maximo and MUS or similar utility design standards preferred.

Essential Skills

  • Local to Wisconsin, Eastern Minnesota, or Denver, Colorado areas for field work.
  • Understanding of fiber, telecommunication, and gas utilities.

Work Environment

This role is based primarily in Wisconsin and Denver, Colorado, with flexibility for candidates in neighboring states such as Michigan and Iowa. The position involves 60% office work (which can be done remotely) and 40% field work, primarily focused on pole replacement tasks. Field visits occur 2-3 days a week, twice a month, with the option to focus solely on design if preferred.
