Distribution and Inventory Manager

Salary range: $58,656 to $69,923, depending on experience. This is an onsite position.

About the role

Under minimal supervision, the Distribution and Inventory Manager oversees and manages work site logistics, warehouse, self-help, and work site asset inventory. This position develops and manages budgets, sets goals and objectives for staff, performance-manages subordinates, and makes decisions to improve program performance based on performance indicators. This role requires comprehensive knowledge of effective management techniques, warehouse management, negotiation strategies, production center operations, customer service, and inventory control systems.

There are direct reports with this position.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates, directs, and manages the timely and effective delivery of supplies, materials, equipment, subcontracts, information technology services, production reports, and accountability.
• Manages compliance with contract terms, conditions, and obligations.
• Supervises staff; ensures a competent, motivated team through hiring, training, counseling, supervising, and reviewing employee performance.
• Develops professional working relationships with key contract personnel and establishes official lines of communication.
• Manages accounts payable through invoice tracking and resolves invoice mismatches as identified by the customer.
• Manages the Self-Help and U-Do-It functions by ensuring needed materials are available and their issuance is tracked. Provides resources to train customers on both programs.
• Manages the warehouse by overseeing warehouse operations, developing and implementing inventory management programs, staffing and supervising warehouse staff, and negotiating pricing and tracking of high-use materials.
• Manages the material procurement process, including receiving customer requests for services, developing material requirements for project execution, and managing the acquisition of materials, including price negotiations. Responsible for managing the site supplier database and related cost of services.
• Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

• Five or more years of experience in distribution, inventory management, logistics, and warehouse management, including at least three years in a supervisory role.
• Fundamental understanding of inventory principles and practices.
• Knowledge of warehousing and inventory management systems.
• Supervisory skills to hire qualified employees, provide professional development, administer performance management and disciplinary processes, and address employee relations appropriately.
• Ability to effectively supervise and develop an assigned team to meet production/service goals while adhering to safety policies and rules.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, make presentations, and respond to inquiries by senior management, customers, and/or employees.
• Demonstrated leadership, organizational, reasoning, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
• Exceptional customer service skills.
• Human relation skills to build effective relationships with team members, customers, and the public.
• Advanced computer literacy, including knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
• Knowledge of business English, including vocabulary, spelling, and correct grammatical usage and punctuation.
• Mathematical skills to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
• Ability to establish priorities and solve a wide range of business, operational, and strategic management problems.
• Flexibility to respond to changing work priorities and handle numerous projects simultaneously.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field. A comparable combination of formal education and work experience will be considered.
• The following licenses or certificates may be required depending on local, state, and/or contract requirements:
  • Federal Security Clearance
  • Valid Driver’s License

Physical Requirements

• Ability to maneuver in and around the warehouse for extended periods.
• Bending and stooping.
• Lifting and moving boxes weighing up to 35 pounds.
• Pulling or pushing up to 75 pounds.
• May require using a pallet jack.
• Climbing on and off material handling equipment.
• Viewing a computer screen and utilizing a keyboard.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a business office environment with limited privacy and some exposure to background noise, as well as in a distribution environment with forklifts, material handling, and production equipment. Depending on external weather conditions, exposure to heat, cold, wind, and rain may occur. Travel between worksites is required.
