Distinguished Engineer - Agentic AI

About the role

The role of a Distinguished Engineer at Capital One involves leading the development of innovative solutions in areas such as real-time marketing systems, assistive technologies for sales teams, and autonomous sales agents (AISDRs).

Responsibilities

• Rapidly prototype & assess new technologies enabling hyper personalized marketing and assistive field sales systems.
• Partner with and influence enterprise and card tech organizations to develop the best agentic marketing and sales systems.
• Establish and evangelize technical charters to help the organization adopt AI technologies more quickly.
• Bridge the gap between current systems and future needs, ensuring existing systems remain healthy and serve the business.
• Clear roadblocks for developers across the organization with exceptional judgment on technical, process, or risk-acceptance solutions.
• Act as an authoritative expert on non-functional system characteristics like performance, scalability, and operability.
• Continue learning and sharing advanced technical knowledge within the community.
• Mentor and coach the next generation of technical talent.
• Provide architectural guidance and designs for large-scale cross-domain programs.
• Work with engineering teams to design and execute Proof of Concepts (PoCs) and hands-on code contributions/reviews.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• At least 7 years of experience in software engineering and solution architecture.
• At least 7 years of experience in enterprise architecture and design patterns.
• At least 3 years of experience with AWS.
• Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 2+ years of experience working on applied and agentic AI systems.
• Strong communication skills to translate "Agentic AI" concepts into business value.
• 10+ years of experience in Cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
• 10+ years of experience coding in at least one of the following: Java, Python, Go, JavaScript, TypeScript, Swift.
• 10+ years of professional experience in the full lifecycle of system development, from conception through architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.

• This role is eligible to earn performance-based incentive compensation, including cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives (LTI).

Pay

Salaries for this role vary by location, ranging from $269,100 to $307,200 for Distinguished Engineer positions in McLean, VA.
