Dispatcher Specialist
This is a hybrid position, with in-office work Tuesday through Thursday and remote work on Mondays and Fridays.
About the role
Lineage drayage services offer a simplified and streamlined way to connect domestic warehouse and ocean transportation networks when importing and exporting goods. The Dispatcher Specialist supports a dynamic environment with daily communications and the routing, scheduling, and dispatching of drivers between our loading docks and ports. This role requires a high level of critical thinking skills and the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment with many operational demands.
Responsibilities
- Prepare the routing and dispatch schedule for drivers and equipment daily to achieve customers' on-time service requirements.
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with:
- Warehouse personnel to ensure streamlined communication and help mitigate port penalties.
- Internal company drivers to ensure efficiency and engagement.
- Carriers to ensure effective usage.
- Use a dynamic routing system to efficiently route product outbound, ensuring accurate record keeping.
- Utilize expert knowledge of the Transportation Management System (TMS).
- Oversee and monitor driver performance, providing guidance and recommending corrective actions when necessary to ensure compliance with company standards and safety protocols.
- Monitor drivers’ hours to ensure appropriate workload to prevent violations.
- Maintain expert knowledge of both intrastate and interstate DOT regulations and the transport industry (HOS, violations, break periods, weight requirements from state to state, location-specific permits, and certifications needed).
- Understand profit margins in conjunction with meeting customer requirements.
- Coordinate and communicate changes to delivery and backhaul assignments to accommodate unforeseen circumstances such as port closures, equipment failures, or last-minute customer requests.
- Address matters that arise and provide timely, thoughtful recommendations to solve issues to meet customer business needs.
- Play a supporting role in identifying continuous improvement opportunities for productivity, efficiency, and customer service.
- Understand, manage, and monitor equipment inventory across multiple yards and support drivers with breakdowns and/or repairs of equipment with vendors.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- 2 years of port dispatching experience.
- Knowledge of shipping and transportation operations and familiarity with import and export processes.
- 2 years of Transportation Management System (TMS) experience.
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with internal and external customers.
- Fluency in Spanish is advantageous but not required.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to function in a fast-paced, highly visible, and changing environment.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to deal with ambiguity.
