Dispatcher - Retail Operations Propane

About the Role

This role will work with existing staff to efficiently route and dispatch retail delivery trucks. You will collaborate closely with drivers, customer service, the service department, and in some cases directly with customers. During high-demand periods, rotating weekend shifts may be required. The position demands a strong work ethic and a consistent attendance record.

Responsibilities

  • Work with District Managers to ensure drivers comply with Department of Transportation Hours of Service (HOS) Regulations and complete required paperwork, such as Daily Vehicle Inspections and monthly Meter Creep Tests.
  • Serve as the primary contact for drivers, addressing issues or providing assistance promptly and handling inquiries.
  • Route trucks daily to meet customer expectations and delivery goals.
  • Monitor route progress throughout the day, making adjustments as needed, including adding stops or handling call-ins.
  • Communicate with drivers via computer systems and phone as required.
  • Review completed deliveries to update K-Factors/Daily Use and schedules, maximizing delivery efficiencies.
  • Create schedules to optimize driver and truck resources.
  • Audit and correct work locations and departments.
  • Assist drivers with technical issues on Toughpad/Android devices and troubleshoot accordingly.
  • Update customer accounts with notes regarding delivery issues and escalate to appropriate departments.
  • Monitor remote systems to ensure tickets are created as needed and key business accounts are delivered on time, including metered tanks.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Two years of dispatching experience with computerized routing preferred.
  • Geographical knowledge of the Tri Gas & Oil Retail Delivery Area.
  • Understanding of retail operations, including the poultry segment of the business.
  • Proficient in Windows Operating System, Microsoft Excel, and Word.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to maintain composure in difficult situations.

Working Conditions

This job operates in a professional office environment and may require fieldwork. Routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets is required. While in the field, the employee may occasionally be exposed to fumes, moving mechanical parts, vibrations, and a variety of extreme weather conditions.

Physical Demands

The role is largely sedentary, with the employee sitting or standing for the majority of their shift. Tasks include communicating by phone, viewing computer screens, and handling paperwork and filing, which may require bending, standing, stooping, pulling, or kneeling. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds.
