Job Summary
To receive and transmit routine and emergency information to Security, Ambulance, and/or Transportation units in the field. Supportive of the Village’s mission, values, and service/hospitality (PRIDE) expectations. Completes training as required by policy.
Essential Job Functions
- Dispatch Drivers for John Knox Village resident transportation.
- Dispatch Public Safety Officers and Ambulances for emergency needs.
- Answer incoming phone calls to serve John Knox Village residents and associates.
- Knowledge and monitoring of Simplex system, Security Monitors, paging systems and 2-way radio systems, notifyer system (fire alarm and severe weather system), knowledge of emergency call in procedures.
- Knowledge of the Villages complex, geography and the greater Kansas City metro area.

Special Responsibilities
- Dispatcher assigned to Home for Life (HFL) will also perform the following:
- Answer, dispatch, review and follow up on all calls for HFL.
- Data entry maintaining accurate and up-to-date records including maintaining Dispatch call codes and spreadsheet regarding call types, equipment issued and other HFL information.
Essential Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED.
- Licenses/Certifications: Emergency Dispatching (EMD) certification preferred.
- Knowledge and Skills: Beginner level Microsoft Office software knowledge (Windows, Word, Excel and Outlook) required.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, handbooks and procedure manuals.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Handles stress well, gets along with others and maintains acceptable standards of conduct.
- Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.
- The associate may be required to interact with individuals with challenged mental capacities.
Special Working Conditions
- Subject to inside environmental conditions.
- May need to stoop/bend or kneel.
Physical and Mental Demands
- Sedentary Work – Exerting up to 10 lbs of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
- Must be able to stand and reach over 24 inch cabinetry to trigger alarm systems over 72 inches off floor in emergency situations.
- Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, making discriminations in sound.
- Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Supervision Received/Given
- Reports to the Public Safety Supervisor.
- May take work direction from Lead Dispatcher.
