About the role
The Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) department of Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) provides fitness, recreation, lodging and food and beverage programs for service members, their families, retired military and civilian employees. This position is assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Food and Beverage; Fleet Readiness; Commander, Navy Installations command (CNIC); NBK Bangor - Warrior Eatery.
Responsibilities
- Set up glasses, silverware, butter, condiments, salads, desserts, bread and cold beverages on serving counter as instructed.
- Remove soiled dishes from tables and transport them to the dishwasher.
- Cut, scrape, chop, dice and peel fruits and vegetables.
- Operate equipment such as electric can opener and electric potato peeler as needed.
- Pre-rinse dishes with water to remove food particles before washing.
- Load dishes in the dishwasher, stack and store dishes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check; any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
- Ability to sustain considerable walking, standing, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 40 pounds.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must successfully obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance as needed.
Qualifications
- Understanding of basic food handling techniques.
- Ability to follow oral directions and routine manual tasks involving a few steps.
- Understanding of personal hygiene standards such as wearing a hairnet and washing hands before touching food and not touching rims of cups/glasses.
- Ability to read and understand written instructions and material such as schedules, menus, and recipes.
- Ability to work safely by moving carts without running into things, stacking dishes without mishaps, and wiping up spilled foods and liquids to prevent falls.
- Knowledge of basic arithmetic may be necessary.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Additional information
- Successful completion of National Agency Check (NACI) background check with written inquiries is required.
- Must be able to obtain a Food Handler’s Certificate.
- Must be able to use simple kitchen equipment and common utensils.
- Must be able to operate a cash register.
- Must be able to follow food recipes and combine ingredients for pizza, salads, and other menu items.
- Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays to support business needs; schedule will vary.
- Work involves light to moderate physical effort such as frequently lifting or moving objects weighing up to 30 pounds, constantly standing and walking, and occasionally lifting up to 45 pounds.
