About the role
The steward is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of the kitchen, ensuring that back-of-house operations run smoothly. This position focuses primarily on ware washing, waste management, and chemical safety compliance. By ensuring a clean and compliant environment, this role supports the culinary team.
Responsibilities
- Wash, sanitize, and stock all plates, glassware, flatware, pots, pans, and kitchen utensils.
- Properly store and refill clean dishes, utensils, and equipment in designated areas.
- Sweep, squeegee, and mop floors.
- Wipe down walls, ceiling tiles, and ventilation hoods according to the cleaning schedule.
- Deep-clean high-use appliances including stoves, ovens, grills, freezers, and refrigerators as needed.
- Collect, sort, and remove trash, compostables, and recyclables.
- Break down cardboard boxes and clean designated trash receptacles.
- Organize clean inventory in storage areas.
- Supply cooks and front-of-house staff with clean service items throughout the shift.
- Ensure all machinery is operating properly and report equipment malfunctions to management.
Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend for the entire duration of a shift.
- Lift up to 50 lbs.
- Flexible schedule, available to work mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with team.
Preferences
- Previous dishwashing or kitchen experience is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to cleanliness and organization.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Must work well independently and as part of a team.
Pay
$21.95/hour
