Disease Intervention Specialist
Responsibilities
- Conduct confidential interviews with individuals diagnosed with HIV/STIs to identify contacts and risk factors
- Notify and locate partners to inform them of potential exposure and encourage testing
- Provide education, counseling, and referrals for prevention, treatment, and care services
- Aid in rapid testing and support field-based outreach efforts
- Participate in disease investigations, outbreak response, and control activities
- Maintain accurate, confidential records and prepare reports on surveillance data and trends
- Deliver community education through workshops and presentations
- Collaborate with internal teams, healthcare providers, and community partners
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, organizational policies, and public health regulations
- Participate in ongoing training, professional development, and emergency response efforts as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, social work, counseling, or a related field
- Experience working with at-risk populations
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and counseling skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficient in medical record keeping and confidentiality procedures
- Understanding of cultural competency and ability to work effectively with diverse populations
- Experience in disease intervention and partner notification
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in sexual health education, counseling, or a related field
- Certification in HIV testing and counseling
- Spanish language proficiency
- Phlebotomy certification or willingness to obtain within role scope
