Primary Responsibilities
- Lead the Traffic Engineering discipline, providing technical oversight and guidance across multiple projects over multiple geographies.
- Drive strategic initiatives to expand service offerings and support business development in the transportation/traffic sector.
- Mentor junior engineers and technical staff, fostering professional growth and ensuring high-quality work across the team.
- Serve as the Engineer of Record for transportation and traffic projects, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and regulations.
- Conduct and oversee traffic engineering studies including traffic impact analyses, intersection safety audits, crash data analysis, and traffic flow/capacity modeling.
- Develop and implement traffic signal designs, traffic management plans, and road safety audits.
- Oversee preparation of construction documents, including detailed plans for traffic signals, signing, pavement markings, and traffic control systems.
- Act as the technical point of contact for transportation and traffic projects, maintaining strong relationships with state transportation departments, local governments, and private sector clients.
- Collaborate with client managers, project accountants, and marketing teams to prepare project proposals, fee estimates, scopes of work, and delivery schedules.
- Represent the firm in client and consultant meetings, presenting technical solutions and project updates clearly and effectively.
- Manage a portfolio of projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
- Oversee the work of multidisciplinary teams, coordinating with surveyors, CAD technicians, field engineers, and external consultants to complete projects efficiently.
- Monitor project progress, conduct field reviews, and provide construction oversight to ensure that projects adhere to design specifications and safety standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) and Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) license.
- 10+ years of experience in transportation/traffic engineering with demonstrated experience in project management.
- Proficiency in MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Experience with DOT projects, traffic signal design, roadway design, and conducting traffic operations studies.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts to clients and team members clearly.
