Disaster Responders for Animals
About the role
We are seeking volunteers who are passionate about helping animals during disasters. We offer three levels of involvement:
- Volunteer locally through Empty Bowl's disaster team.
- Join our state animal disaster response team (requires formal sign-up, drills, and training).
- If you have a group, business, or non-profit interested in participating, we welcome that as well.
Responsibilities
Volunteers will assist in planning and mitigation efforts, responding to disasters, and supporting recovery phases. Specific tasks may include:
- Assisting with the distribution of pet food and supplies.
- Providing emotional support to pet owners.
- Collaborating with local shelters and rescue organizations.
- Participating in training sessions and drills.
Requirements
To participate, you must:
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Have a valid driver’s license.
- Be able to commit to regular training sessions.
- Pass a background check.
Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience working with animals.
- First aid/cPR certification.
- Previous disaster response experience.
Skills

Pay
No pay is provided for these volunteer positions.
Schedule
Volunteer schedules vary based on the needs of the organization and the availability of volunteers. Training sessions and drills are typically conducted on weekends and evenings.
