Bank of Valletta plc is seeking a Disaster Recovery and Incident Management Specialist to ensure the organisation’s resilience by developing comprehensive disaster recovery (DR) plans and managing the lifecycle of incidents to minimise disruption to business operations.

About the role

The job holder plays a crucial role in guaranteeing the organisation's preparedness for disruptive events and efficient response to IT incidents. This position requires readiness to work in a 24/7 operational environment, including on-call responsibilities on a roster basis.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of comprehensive DR plans for all critical IT systems and applications covering various failure scenarios.
  • Participate in risk assessments and impact analysis to identify potential threats and prioritise recovery efforts.
  • Work with IT teams and business stakeholders to ensure DR plans align with overall business continuity objectives, including the definition of recovery time objectives (RTOs) and recovery point objectives (RPOs).
  • Compile and maintain disaster recovery and incident response documentation, including runbooks and playbooks.
  • Conduct regular DR testing exercises to identify weaknesses and continuously improve recovery processes.
  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of training and awareness programmes for staff on disaster recovery procedures and incident response best practices.
  • Coordinate the incident management response for high-priority IT disruptions, ensuring timely resolution and minimal business impact.
  • Assess low-priority incidents to identify recurring trends that could indicate potentially more serious but undetected issues.
  • Support root cause analysis to identify underlying problems and implement preventative measures to minimise future occurrences.
  • Contribute to the development of up-to-date incident response documentation, including procedures and escalation protocols.
  • Collaborate with IT teams and business stakeholders to ensure effective communication and coordinated response during incidents.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders across the organisation to promote awareness and understanding of DR and IM procedures and champion disaster preparedness and business continuity.
  • Participate in conferences and training to stay at the forefront of DR and IM best practices.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies/threats to identify and suggest improvements to the organisation’s DR and IM programmes.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management from time to time.

Requirements

  • Previous proven work experience of three (3) years in an IT enterprise environment and an MQF level 5 Qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related area.
  • Or previous proven work experience of four (4) years in an IT enterprise environment.
  • Or previous proven work experience of one (1) year in an IT enterprise environment and an MQF level 6 Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related area.
  • Preference may be given to candidates meeting the third required criteria.
  • Applicants must satisfy the Bank’s minimum eligibility criteria of four (4) O’Levels at Grade 5/C or higher, including English Language, unless already in possession of an MQF Level 6 Degree or higher.

Qualifications

  • MQF level 5 Qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related area (or higher).
  • Certifications in Disaster Recovery (e.g., EDRP) and Incident Management (e.g., ITIL) are desirable.
  • MQF Level 4 qualification in Pure Mathematics is desirable.

  • Passion for staying current on emerging technologies and ITSM practices.
  • Previous hands-on experience utilising disaster recovery and incident management tools and technologies is desirable.
