About the role
Volunteer swim partner for children with disabilities in a community-based swimming program. You will be paired with a swimmer and another volunteer to create fun activities that meet the needs of your swimmer. Training and support are provided, and leadership opportunities are available.
Responsibilities
- Assist children with disabilities during weekly swim sessions
- Create fun, engaging activities tailored to your swimmer's needs
- Build a consistent, supportive relationship with your swimmer throughout the semester
- Bring a happy, playful attitude to the pool each week
Qualifications
- At least 15.5 years old (young adults to retirees are welcome)
- Strong, capable, and confident swimmer
- Playful and patient nature
- Commit to at least one hour per week for one semester (more hours are fine)
- Preference given to volunteers who can commit on a regular basis, as swimmers do better with consistency
Schedule & location
- Fridays in Berkeley (2001 Allston Way)
- Sundays in Berkeley (2001 Allston Way) and Albany (1311 Portland Ave)
