Disability Accommodation Specialist Level 2-Office of Student Affairs (Provisional)
General Duties
This class of positions provides various services to disabled students. There are two assignment levels within this class. The following are typical tasks within this class of positions. Employees may perform other related duties for the purpose of providing support services to disabled students. Depending upon the needs of service, the duties of this position may require the use of one's own automobile in the performance of official duties; moreover, these duties may be performed on campus or at the student's home.
- Serve as a test accommodations proctor at various examinations to ensure administrative coordination with the appropriate faculty member.
- Affords assistance with the recording, note taking, and videotaping of classes, lectures, and other academic presentations, assisting faculty and staff as appropriate.
- Serves as a reader, note-taker, or transcriber for disabled students; also serves as a lab assistant as required.
- Ferry instructional materials between home and campus; insure hook-ups of special equipment at student's home.
- Provides technical support to participating faculty members so as to facilitate the delivery of services to disabled students.
- Maintains liaison with departments or other administrators overseeing tutors, and coordinates available college tutoring services so that the needs of the student may be fulfilled.
- Maintains financial need criteria on projects participants, making appropriate referrals to the applicable state-sponsoring agencies.
- Covers services available to students that deal with the anxiety, dysfunctional organizational patterns and the like.
Responsibilities
The Disability Accommodation Specialist Level 2 will report to the Academic Student Support Director, and the Disability Accommodation Specialist Level 2 duties include but are not limited to the following responsibilities:
- Support the daily operations of Student Accessibility Services, ensuring timely, student-centered service delivery.
- Review disability documentation, conduct intake meetings, and determine accommodations and services needed across a continuum of settings (Didactic, Lab, and Clinical).
- Coordinate and implement reasonable accommodations across didactic, lab, and clinical settings, including examination accommodations.
- Advise and support medical students through the accommodation process for the school and the USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Exam) Step exam series, assisting with documentation requirements and application process.
- Maintain accurate records and case documentation using systems such as Accommodate and CUNYFirst; track service utilization and prepare reports.
- Contribute to the development and review of policies and procedures in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and related regulations.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Assignment Level I
- An associate degree from an accredited institution of higher education, and two years of related work experience, OR Education and/or work experience that is equivalent to the above.
Assignment Level II
- A baccalaureate degree from and accredited institution of higher education, and four years of related work experience, OR Education and/or work experience that is equivalent to the above.
Other Qualifications
- Prior direct experience with AccessAbility Services.
