About the Role

The Director, Web Platform Engineering leads Greystar's web platform team and owns the technical direction for greystar.com and the broader Sitecore-based web ecosystem. This multi-year platform commitment focuses on converting visitors into leases and ensuring resident satisfaction. You will partner with the product lead as a technical peer to shape the platform's future, balancing deep hands-on expertise in Sitecore AI with a solutions-focused approach. This role is a leader-doer position for a small, high-performing team.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Direction & Product Partnership
    • Own technical direction for the web platform, partnering with the product lead to shape priorities and sequencing.
    • Translate business priorities (leads, leases, campaign enablement, SEO, personalization, and experimentation) into technical strategy.
    • Represent the web platform in enterprise technology planning, aligning with D2AI and broader Greystar priorities.
  • Lead From the Front
    • Stay hands-on: contribute daily to architecture, code review, and development across the platform.
    • Set the technical example for the team, modeling collaborative decision-making and high standards.
  • Web Platform Architecture & Engineering
    • Bring deep, hands-on expertise in Sitecore AI, Vercel, and other evolving web technologies for Greystar’s digital properties.
    • Own architectural decisions for personalization, experimentation, and content delivery.
    • Guide the team’s development, staying current on Sitecore’s roadmap and capabilities.
    • Architect and strategize site search and discovery for relevance and performance.
    • Partner with marketing on evolving content management and operations needs.
    • Coordinate with D2AI’s data platform and CI teams on data integration (Cosmos DB, Salesforce, Databricks).
  • AI-Forward Engineering Practices
    • Use AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Claude Code, or similar) in daily work, modeling best practices for the team.
    • Champion automated testing (unit tests, visual regression tests) as AI accelerates development.
    • Evaluate and adopt AI-enabled tooling for content operations, personalization, and testing.
    • Coach the team on responsible and effective AI use in engineering workflows.
  • People Leadership, Mentorship & Career Management
    • Lead, coach, and grow the team, providing hands-on technical guidance and architectural thinking.
    • Own performance management, career development, and growth planning for each team member.
    • Hire selectively to complement the team’s strengths as needed.
  • Platform Documentation & Knowledge Distribution
    • Document architecture, integrations, and operational knowledge to ensure it lives with the team.
    • Cross-train the team and distribute ownership to avoid single points of failure.
  • Production Support & Operations
    • Own break-fix resolution and production support (L2/L3) for the web platform, ensuring SLA compliance.
    • Maintain release processes, deployment standards, and on-call practices.

How You Operate

  • Strong opinions, weakly held: pivot quickly when needed, without attachment to past decisions.
  • Comfortable moving forward with evolving strategy, favoring pragmatic, collaborative solutions.
  • Document and share knowledge as second nature, with a focus on building up the team.
  • See the product lead as a genuine partner in shaping the platform’s direction.

Requirements

    • Experience partnering with a product lead or manager in a peer relationship.
    • Strong executive communication skills to represent the platform to senior leadership.
  • AI & Modern Tooling
    • Deep, hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot).
    • Enthusiasm for using AI to accelerate engineering work, with real-world examples of application.
