Director, Web Platform Engineering

About the Role
The Director, Web Platform Engineering leads Greystar's web platform team and owns the technical direction for greystar.com and the broader Sitecore-based web ecosystem. This multi-year platform commitment focuses on converting visitors into leases and ensuring resident satisfaction. You will partner with the product lead as a technical peer to shape the platform's future, balancing deep hands-on expertise in Sitecore AI with a solutions-focused approach. This role is a leader-doer position for a small, high-performing team.
Responsibilities
- Technical Direction & Product Partnership
- Own technical direction for the web platform, partnering with the product lead to shape priorities and sequencing.
- Translate business priorities (leads, leases, campaign enablement, SEO, personalization, and experimentation) into technical strategy.
- Represent the web platform in enterprise technology planning, aligning with D2AI and broader Greystar priorities.
- Lead From the Front
- Stay hands-on: contribute daily to architecture, code review, and development across the platform.
- Set the technical example for the team, modeling collaborative decision-making and high standards.
- Web Platform Architecture & Engineering
- Bring deep, hands-on expertise in Sitecore AI, Vercel, and other evolving web technologies for Greystar’s digital properties.
- Own architectural decisions for personalization, experimentation, and content delivery.
- Guide the team’s development, staying current on Sitecore’s roadmap and capabilities.
- Architect and strategize site search and discovery for relevance and performance.
- Partner with marketing on evolving content management and operations needs.
- Coordinate with D2AI’s data platform and CI teams on data integration (Cosmos DB, Salesforce, Databricks).
- AI-Forward Engineering Practices
- Use AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Claude Code, or similar) in daily work, modeling best practices for the team.
- Champion automated testing (unit tests, visual regression tests) as AI accelerates development.
- Evaluate and adopt AI-enabled tooling for content operations, personalization, and testing.
- Coach the team on responsible and effective AI use in engineering workflows.
- People Leadership, Mentorship & Career Management
- Lead, coach, and grow the team, providing hands-on technical guidance and architectural thinking.
- Own performance management, career development, and growth planning for each team member.
- Hire selectively to complement the team’s strengths as needed.
- Platform Documentation & Knowledge Distribution
- Document architecture, integrations, and operational knowledge to ensure it lives with the team.
- Cross-train the team and distribute ownership to avoid single points of failure.
- Production Support & Operations
- Own break-fix resolution and production support (L2/L3) for the web platform, ensuring SLA compliance.
- Maintain release processes, deployment standards, and on-call practices.

Requirements
- Web Platform Engineering Excellence
- 10+ years of web platform or CMS engineering experience, with deep, hands-on expertise in Sitecore AI and headless implementations.
- Strong background in modern headless frontend architecture and Vercel or similar deployment platforms.
- Deep experience with search platforms (Coveo, Algolia, Elasticsearch, or similar); Coveo experience is valued.
- Proficient with Git and modern CI/CD practices (GitHub, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).
- Leadership & Communication
- 5+ years leading engineering teams, with a track record of mentoring engineers and fostering career growth.
- Experience partnering with a product lead or manager in a peer relationship.
- Strong executive communication skills to represent the platform to senior leadership.
- AI & Modern Tooling
- Deep, hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot).
- Enthusiasm for using AI to accelerate engineering work, with real-world examples of application.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience partnering with marketing teams on content management platforms and operations.
- Experience on conversion-focused digital platforms (lead generation or e-commerce).
- Experience operating a platform across multiple regions (e.g., supporting European operations).
- Datadog or equivalent monitoring/observability expertise.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.

- Sitecore AI, Next.js/React (App Router), Vercel, Coveo, Azure DevOps, GitHub, GitHub Actions, Git, LaunchDarkly, Datadog, Figma, Linear, AI coding tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot).
Pay
The salary range for this position is $150,000 - $170,000 USD annually. Additional compensation may include eligibility for a quarterly or annual bonus program based on individual and company performance.
