Director - University School for Young Children
The Director of the University School for Young Children (USYC) within the College of Education, Health and Human Studies at Southeast Missouri State University is responsible for providing direct leadership and overseeing all aspects of the center.
About the Role
The Director is expected to develop and implement policies and procedures for USYC, manage daily operations, supervise staff, engage in professional development, and conduct assessments.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for USYC
- Oversee daily management tasks of the Center
- Supervise Center staff, University students, and volunteers
- Coordinate on-site supervision and training of University students in a laboratory school setting and practicum courses
- Evaluate and create professional development plans for all staff members annually
- Observe classrooms and provide feedback to staff regularly
- Develop programs that are inclusive of family outreach strategies and family-centered activities
- Engage in critical assessment of professional development needs and participate in relevant professional development activities based on assessment
- Conduct on-site staff meetings
- Ensure compliance with Missouri state licensing and NAEYC accreditation requirements
- Seek grant funding opportunities for the benefit of families and the school
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education, Early Childhood Special Education or related field
- Minimum of five years of experience in an early childhood setting as a teacher and/or administrator
- Knowledge of Missouri licensing standards and NAEYC program accreditation
- Experience with implementing NAEYC developmentally appropriate practice and major approaches in early childhood education
- Experience in assessing young children and developing portfolios for children
- Problem-solving skills and knowledge of technology and its appropriate use in early childhood education
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Excellent teamwork and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with young children and families, university students, faculty, staff, and the public
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of customer service
Qualifications
